Home Automation - Smartkit

Disclaimer: I haven't really messed around with a lot of this stuff for a while, so getting excited for things that are old news to you guys.

Realised I could also turn lights on and off on the opposite of the house with a physical wall switch that isn't connected to the light, by having a sonoff basic on each end. Then in HA have automations that triggers one basic based on the status of the other.

Thinking this would be a cool use of an emergency light switch button in the bedroom... hit one light switch and all the lights in the house and yard come on... and turn on the sprinklers... and fire tear gas into the yard... and release the snakes... all from one emergency button. Possible yes?
Yeah MQTT commands out the light switches can do anything. I run scripts and control the aircons via the T1 light switches.

That's pretty cool I think... allows you to do anything with a light switch that you normally wouldn't be able to.
Good luck to an electrician figuring out wtf is going on when I try get a CoC.

SV requires the wires to still be soldered on correct? It's a pity they don't make it in a nice package like the basic.

yeah you will need to do some soldering to have good connections, but it really isn't hard hey i really wouldnt be concerned if you think it is complex

Cool, I just need to practice soldering a bit. Have only soldered together a couple of microphone cables in the past with relative success.

You didn’t put retain settings in HA by any chance?
So when it reconnects to power or reconnects to wifi, it cycles the relay. All I can think is that it had wifi connection of sorts and restarting the AP sorted it.

What is “PowerOnState” ? If it’s 1 or 3 it explains your problem.

It should be 0.

And if it is 1 or 3 your “WifiConfig” setting might be indirectly what caused it if it forces a restart.

You’ll want to fix this regardless otherwise Load Shedding will be lots of fun...depending on what it’s connected to of course.

On the Tasmota interface for "Configure Timer", what exactly does the +/- do?
Randomly add/subtract x number of minutes from the specified time?

Ever since I started installing the Shelly 1 switches I am a huge fan. In fact, I would prefer even using the Shelly 1 over the Sonoff SV switches for DC loads, because it can do both DC and AC, ever more importantly, no soldering and easy to flash if you really want Tasmota. However I left them on the Shelly original firmware and use them like that with Home Assistant, without connecting them to either the cloud nor mqtt.

Do we need certification even if they only used on DC loads like for Garage door motor etc?

PowerOnState has not been edited so I think that leaves it on 0.
I do however need build something to detect when the SV is in an error state like this so Home Assistant and notify. Makes sense why it was so sluggish considering the fault was a bad wifi link.

I would make damn sure so you have a baseline and aren’t chasing problems that don’t exist.

It should never trigger the relay when resuming power or WiFi or anything unless you want it to.

I see some of my devices have sonoff-tasmota firmware on and others just have tasmota firmware (those where I've done an ota update to tasmota-lite.bin)

I'd like to have them all on the same firmware if possible, should I try get them all on tasmota-lite.bin?
If so, what would be the upgrade path to get them there using OTA upgrade on the current Sonoff-Tasmota gui

Well in a way its a bad indicator that the SV in connected in a bad state.

It’s just a branding exercise due to copyright. The exact same thing.

But you would upgrade with the minimal firmware, then boot back into it and install the full firmware.

Or you can use Tasmoadmin.

Be mindful that PowerOnState wasn’t always default of 0 on older firmwares and would have upgraded with whatever was in place.

In the older days the default was always turning back on.
