I think this is a decent thread for *any* home automation and helps everyone that reads it. Almost the de facto automation thread

That’s the way I see it and haven’t considered it specific to your store.
 
Gawd Dr ZZs talks fast when you trying to follow. Thats Dolby, nice to have one thread where general home automation is discussed.
I cant say I own a Fibaro unit, just weighing up the options.

Been trying for the past hour to flash this Sonoff to Tasmota but constant
warning: espcomm_sync failed
error: espcomm_open failed
error: espcomm_upload_mem failed
error: espcomm_upload_mem failed

This is now tomorrows problem.
 
Check you have the connections right. Try swapping TX and rx.
 
Nope that didnt work either.
This fiddly bastard is just trying to annoy me. Its getting power because when I plug in without pressing the button it lights up happily.
Maybe a dud device, maybe a bad usb programmer, but worked fine in Ewelink mode.

Will try with a different sonoff tomorrow.
 
The light shouldn't flash when you holding down the button to put it into flash mode. (at least mine doesnt)

Hold button down, then power device, then release button....should be no lights.

Try OTA instead?

Yeah no lights when I start the device with the button down.
Will try later this evening with new cables and what not.
 
Ok I was just being a potato. Not all of the settings correct before sending to the Sonoff. Working now and pulled into home assistant. MQTT was easier than expected.
 
Seems Home Assistant is the favourite choice and I see it also supports Homekit.

Or would Homebridge still be better?
 
Question for everyone flashing their Sonoffs: do you have a recommended cable we could stock? Preferably something that wouldn't require soldering?

I bought some male to female jumper cables. The female end slips onto the pins of the USb board, and I just poked the male ends through the holes on the sonoff. Worked fine.

Not too loose? I'd hate to lose connection half way through a flash.
 
Nah the spring in the cables kept them pushing against the contacts
 
I couldn't get that right, kept loosing connection - eventually soldered on a header.

Theoretically, you could just use a female to female cable, and just attach the header loss on one end.

What I would recommend stocking is a little power toggle that can be connected to the 3.3V cable, so you don't have to unplug and plug in usb all the time.
