There's two methods - one, you upload a firmware image via the device's web interface, or you tell it to go fetch a new firmware via a command. 2nd option is the OTA one I'm talking about.

With official Sonoff firmware < 1.6, you can upload a custom firmware OTA.
 
Interesting, I see in the last month or two, Tasmota has implemented on-device timers. Had to do this with the home automation software in the past. (Version 5.12.0i)

Well, it wasn't exactly difficult to do a wired flash ;)
Maybe a bit fiddly because I didn't solder, and the RF's are bitch with the missing jumper that you have to bridge.

Still a pain in my ass which I would prefer to avoid.
 
v1.6 only applies to the basic.

My pow I actually had to update to the latest official firmware before it'd flash ota.

Haha! I'd love to really get the DIY/Hobbyists IoT scene going in SA with a proper forum en alles. How many people are going to be interested (I know all you Sonata/HASS/OpenHAB guys are out there) in this type of thing - the Sonoff is pretty much plug-and-play?

Think we should expand to a more advanced crowd?

I could seriously find myself with a new hobby...
I like the fact that this one has a battery charger built in :)

Probably more cost effective to buy a sonoff th with a sensor, but not as cool :D

Yeah, not way to get those TH16 prices - $8.60 vs $15.00 at the absolute cheapest.
 
Hmm, reading up on i2c now.
It's a lot cleverererer than I assumed...
So could take that feather board and attach multiple i2c sensor sub-boards to it, all using the same two pins, and write some arduino code to poll them all and report to MQTT...

This is a rabbithole of note...
