Yip - most hardware stores, I use it quite often for corners - local builders and buco have it. comes in small sections, 20mm width. They usually have it with the 20mm PVC fittings

In a perfect world everything would he junction boxed and can just bridge from there.
But yeah in older houses or bad wiring situations I could understand some reservation.

Very nice setup! Would a CoC be issued with the setup as is or are the sparkies a bit more anal about setups like that? Just wondering whether I should take the plunge and DIY or whether I should get all the components and have a sparkie install for me? Will have to go in roof at fittings as I don't have neutrals going down to switches.
Also related note - will CoC be an issue if I install my CCTV DVR etc in the roof to minimise cables into the study?

When selling my previous house, when doing CoC, only the beetle and water guys peaked into the roof.
The electrical guys only went into the roof when detecting interference on the geyser circuit at the DB and ONLY looked at that.
What the electrical guys do mostly is test that all your lights have earth at the light cuz some people replace the light with something more modern and then skip the earth, unless it is only plastic. They also go around and plug in a device on all wall sockets to test.
Indeed! I would love a "star topology" where every light & swich box starts from a common point, but instead it feeds from one light/box to the next. And then sometimes runs the cables for the next light down to the switch box, only to loop back up and out. Lekker stupid!
What does this do - does it just check the circuit is wired the right way around?

that but also the level of something, but honestly cant remember. None of the plugs had a real issue.

I had 2 sonoff mini's installed today by an electrician.
The devices show as online but when I try to turn them on or off it says "Failed. Please try again".
After pressing it a few times then only it works

After my renovations in the next few months I'll get a CoC then, hopefully it passes.
With my previous house I did some electrical work myself as well, including outside lights/plugs - it all passed CoC.
What failed CoC was stuff that was signed off during the CoC when I actually bought and took ownership of the place 7 years prior. Cost me R10k

To be honest, I have had some sparkies out before to install solar geyser wiring and some outside cabling from Swimming Pool to Lapa and all I can say is all of them really did a phenomenally average job. Not bad but definitely not pro. DIY is great as you can be as anal as you want to and really make it look neat. Only downside is the damn electrocution side of things...my OCD can handle a bit of a sparkAfter my renovations in the next few months I'll get a CoC then, hopefully it passes.

I finally found an ex-electrician (now PV system installer) who is, by his own admission, a bit OCD. He installed my PV system and he did an absolutely phenomenal job. Everything neatly organised, labeled and checked. Trunking was all sealed and perfectly cut. He was concerned about the PV panels lining up and all exactly at the same angle. He was concerned about the contactor I would use for my geyser -- saying that if it was to be installed in the DB, it had to look good as you will see a part of it. He has a drone which he uses to fly over everything on the roof afterwards to double check the work his guys did.

I have the same problem. They should change the law for selling houses , that it's the buyer's choice to appoint the electrician to do the COC, at the cost of the seller. That would solve 95% of the problems buyers face with houses that have COCs not worth even wiping your arse with. You can be rest assured, next time I buy a place, that's the condition in my OTP.After my renovations in the next few months I'll get a CoC then, hopefully it passes.

Yep, can add me to that list too. I had a few issues with the electrical stuff after moving in, got the company that did the CoC to fix some of it but the work was so shoddy I ended up redoing most of it myself.
e.g. In the kitchen, we had exposed wires (not twin/earth or even house wire) running through the cupboards and then connected to the stove by twisting the wires and taping it up.
