No stress, I just bought a 3 gang to test with in the interim. Need to see how these these like Tasmota.

My general understanding is that the Sonoffs on eWeLink is terrible, while on custom firmware is as solid as your wifi/Home Assistant setup.

I can tell you that the Xiaomi motion detectors do go offline for a while but comes back, and they unfortunately pick up my cats. The door sensors are better and I managed to put a door sensor into a Takex outdoor wireless PIR which works really well.

Thanks for the feedback. Will give Xiaomi a go then, as they seem to be the middle ground in terms of price and performance. I could always try one or two Sonoff sensors too and see how they compare.
 
N00b just jumping in here.

What are some options we have for smart switches? 1,2 or 3 gang switches that can be used to control lights and integrate with Home Assistant?
 
Does Sonoff have any rf switches you can just plak wherever you like like the qwik switch?

calypso will test Tasmota on the Sonoff T1 AU/US shortly - this will integrate nicely with Home Assistant if their firmware can be changed. Theoretically this should be possible - but they have just been released.

Yeah, we're discussing which Xiaomi products to bring in - other than Yeelights. Do you guys have a wishlist and we could start stocking for overnight delivery? ;)

Saw a vid from DrZzzz or something and he managed to flash the Touch. On the screen though, there was an option for T1 2 gang etc so I’d think it’s possible.

I’d potentially look at their full blown LED ceiling lights down the line.

But I’ll be honest with you, I don’t believe in a local is lekker approach to things and generally go wherever something is cheapest to my door.

Sometimes that’s local. Often it’s international. But I generally look everywhere and price compare first.

Yes, but "instant gratification" and ease-of-purchase are why people buy locally. I have things from Banggood that take weeks, if not months. With a local company you could have the product the same day.

We also have the opportunity to bulk buy - thus reducing our costs and being competitive locally.

Yeah for sure there are people who want it here and now.

I was just illustrating that if I need to pay R250 for shipping but I can buy a variety of products from Banggood over multiple places locally I’ll often do that instead.

Sometimes it gets to my door even faster than local.

More often than not if I do import stuff I ask my mates if they want something and just split it out.
