These would basically "compete" with the Sonoff's correct? Does it give any new functionality?

This would be functionality/use cases that the Sonoff's currently don't cover?

Sonoff doesn't really have LED strip control. The light bulbs would most likely be cheaper. The Electrodragon IoT Relay Board is an alternative - but it does't appear to have different version, such as the inductive load board.

I'd like cheap bulbs - not really interested in RGB. The Yeelights were great, but it looks like they discontinued the white bulbs.

ARILUX® E27 or the Ai-thinker bulbs are both RGB but would also be cheap enough for white bulbs. The B1 white light is great, actually.

Its a pity that proper wifi downlights would be bollocks expensive...

One day when I'm big though, I want to get some decent wifi RGB bulbs for specific areas of the house.

I was looking at wifi downlights, but figured it wouldn't be worth the hassle having individual bulbs on the network - we have close on 80 bulbs. (that was why I asked about multi-way switches earlier, in my case its not going to be possible to replace the switches)

Yeah, but Sonoffs run the ESP8266 so you can flash it just as any other ESP8266 and load micro-python or something along those lines to drive the strip on it. But nobody wants to reinvent the wheel :p

What does Sonoff with Tasmota offer in terms of opening my driveway gate centurion motor?
Anything they have that I could use?

I am playing with this at the very moment (well, with the garage door but the principle is the same).

I would recommend either the sonoff SV inching model (preferably the 5V/12V model, as the Centurion motor gives 12V) or the "ordinary" sonoff SV - hook it up to the Centurion gate motor power supply, program it so that it gives the pulse when you press the "toggle" button, and connect the output from the sonoff device to the 2 contacts that need to be shortened for the gate to open.

I'm now playing with the sonoff SV model (not the inching model, but have changed the settings so that it turns into the pulse mode - switches ON for the determined time and goes back OFF automatically). So you could use the sonoff with Tasmota the same way you use your NOVA remote but of course with remote/wifi capabilities of course.

Please let me know if you come right. An alternative is one of the inching switches, either the 1 Channel Inching /self-locking WiFi Wireless Switch 5V 12V or the Sonoff 4CH Pro R2.

I'd like to know of a solid solution to give to anyone with a question about gates/garages.

Ok so first backing plate is in. Its not perfect but will be improved upon. A little tight and smaller than planned.

Because its a little too small, it was causing the frame to bow a little, but it worked.

Now for the wall fitting

Improvement but still need abit of work. There is a small bump of paint/plaster in the bottom right corner that i couldn't defeat, will need to sand that down.

Because of the back pressure of the cables, was still hard to get the light to click in, the clips are just crap, and there is just not much one can do about that. There is a reason why everyone else designed lights to be screwed down. You can still pull it out with out hand.

Will further work on it do get the sizing more accurate and will also recess the faceplate for the glass switch portion so one can over force the clips into the clasps when fitting.

That looks perfect. Well done!
When do we start placing orders :D

Edit: Ok, still some tweaking to be done - but it's looking great.

Looking good though!

We might have to do a deal when you've perfected your technique ;)

no problem - i'll bring my (non-inching) sonoff SV over to you and show how it works when i come to fetch that inching 5V/12V sonoff that i ordered the other day (please don't flash this to tasmota as i think i'll need it to stay on ewelink for what i want to do with it).

Sure!

Hopefully it's being collected in Shenzen today - so should be here next week.

great stuff - thanks.

also just to clarify - the sonoff SV (non-inching model) can only do "Turn on x seconds and then auto-off" and not the other way around (Turn off 1s and then auto-on), but this is enough for the purpose of getting the gate to open and close in any case. The command to use is "PulseTime<x>" in the device's web page Console. Full demo to follow next week.

I'd have the following questions:
1. Would I be able to just connect this alongside my nova/sherlo remote receiver at my motor to allow my motor to be opened with either remote or sonoff

2. Is the programming you've done with Tasmota or the stock firmware

3. If SmartKit can provide a flashed device, that has everything programmed correctly to open/close a gate - perhaps even sold with
THIS waterproof case, then it would be a great ready to install piece of kit.

Maybe even include some complimentary HA dashboard code, but that may be pushing it :D
