Home Automation - Smartkit

I don't really use IFTTT - I've tried it, but I don't find the integration that out of this world. This is standard app and standard firmware - but even the Sonoff Bridge (hub) can be flashed from I hear.

Theoretically, you can use any 433Mhz PIR , door sensor or any other 433Mhz sensor really (smoke alarm, gas sensor, moisture detector). These are 3rd party from Sonoff - so they've tested them and they work. All the examples of sensors I have with me are 868Mhz - so I can't even test.

We looked at buying local 433Mhz to avoid needing to bringing in - but they are so expensive locally. I think the cheapest I've found is over R250.00 for a 433Mhz PIR with no guarantee it even works
 
Only reason why I'm interested in IFTTT is easier integration with other services - such as my Yeelights or location.

Almost all Sonoff models are compatible with IFTTT. Actually, all eWeLink supported 1-4 gang smart switch/socket/LED can work with IFTTT. Here's the list (updating): Sonoff S31, Sonoff T1 UK, Sonoff T1 EU, Sonoff S30, Sonoff 4CH, Sonoff 4CH Pro, Sonoff Dual, Sonoff LED, Sonoff, Sonoff RF, Sonoff SV, Sonoff Slampher, Sonoff Touch EU/US, S20 Smart Socket, S22, Sonoff Pow, Sonoff TH10/TH16 and Sonoff Hum, BN-SZ01, Sonoff G1, 1 Channel Inching /Self-Locking WiFi Switch.

Unsupported models: RF Bridge 433, iFan, Sonoff SC, Sonoff B1.

So let's wait and see.

@Dolby - did you set this up using eWeLink and IFTTT, or is it done solely within eWeLink?

Only through eWeLink.

They only thing I have through IFTTT is my front door light coming on at sunset and going off at sunrise.

I do need to explore it though
 
Thanks Dolby - checking back a couple of posts I see that I missed phaktza listing the Sonoff bridge as unsupported by IFTTT.
 
I'm testing out the TP Link smart home stuff right now.

Unfortunately, South Africa doesn't offer the full range (they actually fraction - with only globes and 2 pin plugs really) - but looking at the Kasa app I can see the things that can be added : cameras, routers/hubs, motion sensors, door sensors, smart bulbs, smart plugs, switches and even WiFi and range extenders.

Also work with Nest, Alexa, Gologle Assistant and IFTTT

App is smooth and quite slick too ... custom icons (even photos / downloads etc).

What have you guys typically used the basic switches for? Reading light is about as far as my imagination goes. HiFi etc doesn’t come on by switching on/off at the plug so need some ideas to satisfy the gadget buying need in me!

Maybe I should rather look as something to switch the ceiling lights on/off via an app

It can be fitted to lights.

So far my initial install is

Pool Pump, Pool Light and Outside Lights (1 bank)...

Intended full install..

Light switches for the whole house, all outside lights, AC (somehow)... and anything else that could do with being automated.
 
Outside lights are a great idea. Most of mine are on a day/night switch but I have 2 others 24/7 that can benefit from this.

For the ceiling lights, which product do I get that will fit behind the switch?

My main two uses are :

Outside front door light connected to Weather Underground - on at sunset and off at sunrise.

Turn off every light in the house with a single command. I use that every night ... More convenient if you have large house with multiple stories

EDIT I use Basics behind the switches. I have a neutral, so no work needed. And they fit with no issue

EDIT #2 For a ceiling fan, you could buy a TH16 and a temperature sensor. Set the fan to power up if over a certain temperature
