I have very old remotes that don't have rolling codes based on the research I've done.

Connecting Sonoff directly to each device seems like way more work and research to figure out what pin outs to use to control and supply power etc.

Unless the SV can be state aware that would be the only benefit and then I don't see how that would work without some special acknowledgement coming from each device.
 
It's generally pretty easy. Positive, negative, normally a seperate ground and then a "signal". Same as any other remote receiver. Not sure about state but you might be able to hook up a reed switch sensor to a gpio with tasmota. Non rolling code receivers aren't very secure.

Okay just to confirm that I have never done this before I need to point out that I have no idea what gpio even means.

But let's say I wanted to go "direct' how exactly would I hook up to this?

I currently have no physical button on the system only remotes, so I would imagine the Sonoff would go the Ground and Button trigger connectors?

Where would it get power from? Or would those pin outs provide power?

In my case it wouldn't just be a Garage.

It would be an Alarm + Garage + Gate.

But maybe if I see how hard/easy it would be to do for the garage above I'll find out the details of the other stuff to possibly do it there as well.

Also slightly concerned that Wireless might not reach the gate motor outside, which was one of the original reasons I thought of using the known to be working RF option instead.

OpenGarage also doesn't seem to have Homekit support from a quick look. Unless there is a hack for it or it integrates with Homebridge?
 
I'm going the Qwikswitch route regarding gate and garage door automation. I'm getting 2x 12V pulse relays and those will be connected in parallel to the existing receivers and door sensors installed both at the gate and garage door to monitor whether it is open or closed. The relays are super easy to connect as the existing ET receivers have also have N/O, COM, L and N (4 wires) leading to the control boards respectively, so just hook up the wires according to the diagrams and you should be set. I'll be doing that next month.
 
I'm not an expert, so maybe there's a better way. I would connect the red 12V to the red input, the black GND to the black input and the black "output", the blue trigger to the red output.

Alternatively you could use a dedicated power supply to the Sonoff then just connect the output side exactly the same as a "wall switch" on the garage motor.

Your logic is much the same as mine then.

Worth a shot.

If something else is connected these I would imagine running it in parallel isn't an issue?

How much?

And does it do HomeKit?
 
The QS relay and door sensor is about R500 or so go check their website. No they are not HomeKit compatible.

I haven’t set this up or tried it, but I believe HomeBridge exposes Home Assistant devices to HomeKit.
 
Guys who've flashed the sonoff basic, what happens after you've flashed it?

Mine doesn't show up on the network... Used the Arduino IDE - changed the Wifi options accordingly - uploaded... 100% successfull - then wired the thing up and it never comes online.

Are you sure you got the network details right, in the right place in the config files?
 
And here I was all excited with my echo dots (even got my 3 year old using it to play songs). And you guys come up with this hi tech stuff.

Is there a link or guide for the basics? Not sure if I want to get the harmony hub or go HomeKit since I do have Apple phone, Mac, and Apple TV. Would like to use the dots to turn my kids tv on and off and launch Netflix and a few other kids shows.

Yip... triple checked - tried 3x (which takes forever to "compile/upload". These are really a pain in the arse compared to the other sonoff devices
 
The basics were easiest! The rf was a pita.
 
Incidentally they come online and work while connected to the serial adapter. You can check them then, without having to connect up the power cable.
