Home Automation - Smartkit

R547 from amazon including shipping and duties vs R595 from Smartkit including shipping. Amazon also has stock.

FWIW my dad is carrying them over in Jan, along with three more Echo Dots, and some sonoff switches, so they're def cheaper from Amazon and I don't mind the wait. :)

Thanks for the size info - I measured and it looks good.
We'll have a bunch of T1s in about two weeks time. With the better exchange rate I expect the pricing to be much better next month!

The stock shortage is on the Sonoff side of things, so expect issues from all suppliers.

Cool - I'm sure I'll want more going forward. Right now I'm taking things slowly and my dad has room in his suitcase. Not much though since he's also carrying over two ipads and a Mavic Air thanks to some spectacular black friday specials... and a shed load of candy. :)

Just remember on Smartkit the shipping on devices doesnt stack where on Amazon it does. On T1 is pretty useless, you need to fit out the whole house.

Right now I'm dipping my toes in the water. We'll see what happens. Right now I'm paying nothing for shipping and that kinda works for me.

A mate of mine brings in containers every month from China, so depending how deep I want to go, that could also be an option.

phaktza says prices will be improving next month so we'll see what happens next month :)

Anyone have a guide where I can use a rpi2 and a relay to control my garage door via google home?

That sounds heavy and expensive .. why not use a Sonoff SV (under R200) to do the same ? If you search this thread you should find the posts. If it's just one device you want to manage , you can use the normal itead ewelink app. Or if you go down the rabbit hole, you will flash it to tasmota and install Hass.io like most of us are doing.

Yes, the Pi2 should be able to run Hass.io.

I have two sonoff switches as well but already have the rpi and relays lying around...

As ridiculous as it sounds that is too much processing power for the application and therefore not many applications out there for it.

Will find loads for ESP8266 based boards though.

Hi all

I sorta followed this thread on and off but lost track for a while.

What's the best option to be able to control outside fluorescent lights using home assistant?

To start off, all I want is to be able to create an automation with home assistant that switches on the light at sunset and then maybe switch it off at 10pm.

I bought some stuff last year that I haven't touched yet: a Sonoff T1, Aeotech Z-Wave USB controller and a Fibaro Z-wave relay thingy.

What's the easiest option to get started with?

@phaktza tell me more about the iFan02 thingy?
Can I use it to control both a normal light and a ceiling fan? ie, I have my patio lights running off an RF. Can I replace the RF with the iFan, and then put in any old ceiling fan and hook that up too? Does it need a special type of fan? How does it control the speed (PWM or voltage?)

Fanks :)

Cheapest simplest option is probably die Sonoff.

I dont think you can set the native firmware to sunset, but thats possible with Home Assistant. But if you’re fine with a specific set on/off time then the Sonoff should be fine.

I use IFTTT.com with ewelink to turn my light on at sunset.

And further to this I would like to know if it's been tested with any particular ceiling fans.

They seem very stuck on "LED" ceiling fans so not sure why that is?

Good question considering the rating for the light is up to 1250W....

Maybe it's to facilitate some RGB story? But that also wouldn't make sense since it's just power wiring running to it last I checked.

Hi guys,

Looking for a cheap IP camera module I can use with homeassistant, does anyone have any recommendations?

Also need to figure out wtf is using electricity at my place at a ridiculous rate still, any method to attach sensors on the main swith per "port" (sections for lights, geysers etc) and measure the usage per port and the usage on the main line. Hope that makes sense :o

The Efigy’s do exactly that I believe.

But one wonders if the expense makes up the loss.

Electric oven? Check switches are actually off.

Otherwise take a morning reading and turn geyser off for day and work out average.

Downlights everywhere? Non-LED?

Can’t see the meter unfortunately :|
Already have two Pow2 connected that I’m used to measure electronics.

Have LED G10 down-lights throughout the house.

Why do you suspect those particular two plugs to be taking so much power?

Is it a new thing or has it always been this way?
