My BH1750 arrived this morning! Now to see if I can get it to show me my home alarm's armed/disarmed status!

So as an Apple + Home Assistant household which is the better integration option?

Google Home or Amazon Alexa?

A mate of mine is using Amazon Alexa + HASS + Apple and it works really well. The routines he's built in Alexa in conjunction with HASS are really slick. Don't know anyone who is using Google Home to compare with.

Yeah that’s why I figured I’d ask here first and get some general real world research while I dig into it myself.

Lots of specials all round but seems I can get like 2 x Echo Dots for the price of one Google Home (locally) anyway.

Really wanted the Kids edition for my daughter but they are double the price so screw that.

Does it work alright as a Bluetooth speaker? (For kids not me)

Also does the Apple Music part work in SA?

Yeah, he uses Dot's across his whole house and then will Bluetooth stream music in different sections of the house. Sound quality is excellent. He also uses the Spotify integration to stream music to the Dots from HASS.

The choice largely depends on the ecosystem outside of HA that you are tied into.

If you use Google Play Music, then obviously the Google Home and its associated devices will work the best..
Chromecasts work flawlessy with Google Home.

I also think that if you are comfortable in an API driven world, then Google Home does bring lots to the table in terms of things you can do with it.

Both are similar for home automation.
If you ask a random question the Google home will have better answers.

They dont realy work like bluetooth speakers at all. Instead they will stream music directly from the internet from Google music or spotify ect.

I have 4 Dots around the house, use them for announcements from HA, music streaming etc. I found it much easier to integrate into HA than Google Assistant.
HA is able to expose switches, boolean-inputs, etc. as devices for Alexa to toggle, no cloud needed for this.

I mean when you do want to use it purely as a Bluetooth Speaker how well does it work.

My Alexa dont allow me to use it as a bluetooth speaker? Is that a new feature that I just missed or what. As in, it never used to allow me to pair it through bluetooth for streaming...

I have no idea mate.

As it’s listed as a Bluetooth device I simply assumed you can use it directly as such.

Post above made it sound like it does work like that.

Quick Google says yes it does.

You say “Alexa, pair Bluetooth”.

I’m thinking of the Kids Echo Dot to replace the wired dock in my daughters room.

Perfection would be needing no phone at all any longer, but it sounds like Apple Music only works in the US with Alexa at present, so may need a work around and hence the Bluetooth need.

I am almost certain it does allow Bluetooth pairing? Let me check with my friend and I'll confirm.

Apple’s is just fine using my Watch.

However the HomePod speaker being the only hands free option and super expensive is the real problem for me.

But I was approaching it more from a want/need to buy a speaker for my daughter’s room may as well make it smart perspective.

I see they don’t ship here directly though, so that kind of killed my buzz.

Why do companies not want our money?

In theory..... BH1750 connected to GPIO1+4 of Sonoff SV. Then use the BH1750 to detect the arm/disarm LED on the main-board of the alarm. Sonoff SV relay also used to arm/disarm the alarm.

As I said though..... In theory! :unsure:
