Always worry about CoC issues, insurance will look for any excuse.

Got a reasonable quote from armed response company. It will then also integrate with my security app.

So just checking for lowest price.

I should qualify that by saying “if you running Tasmota”. I’m sure the same could be said for ewelink but I don’t use that.

You set the profile to Sonoff mini, and default operation would be for the external switch (GPIO4) to be momentary. This can be controlled using Switchmode. Switchmode 0 will toggle the output every time the button is pressed (momentary). Switchmode 1 will change the output in “follow’ mode, so the output will change state when the state of the input changes. There’s a million other options, like setting Switchmode to distinguish between a short press, a long press or double taps. I use that a lot in our living areas where one switch will either switch on the room lights when operated normally, or switch on mood lighting on long presses. Has anyone managed to convert an old smartphone/tablet into a stable and steady HA server?

I have an old Samsung lying around which I would love to repurpose as my HA server for my IoT devices. Failing that I will probably have to go the Pi route.

seems odd, any decent device capable of doing this will probably have at least the resale value to cover the pi anyway if not more.

not necessarily... my old phones look old. A bit bashed up, likely a screen crack.
 
I would love to sell the phone but the screen is a bit shoddy and I don't have the energy to face potential scammers. Just a general query is all - anyone been able to load HA on older Smartphones?
 
I think because automation systems aren’t resource intensive, many people think you can use it on any ‘cheap’ hardware without issues. I initially also shared this view, until the central control of all my devices went from a curiosity to an integral part of our home. I now take its reliability rather seriously; I’ve even ordered proper enclosures for the Pi 4 I’m running HA so I can run it on SSD rather than SD card. Yes, Pi isn’t real powerful, but it is reliable. I guess everyone’s needs differ though

You worry way too much.

Just do things properly and you don’t need to worry.

And like I said people can steal your keys or whatever manner in which you open your stuff much more easily.

I am going to install a VM on Win10 as I was planning to run a media and CCTV server permanently anyways. It would be nice to have a dedicated tablet to display everything but between Alexa and HA apps, we should have more than enough ways to skin the cat!
 
Maybe I’m short sighted, but I’m really struggling to understand why on earth you’d want cloud based automation, when it’s possible to have so much better localized solutions available? Genuine question.

Local better indeed eg issue of overloading router but tasmotizing ... no thanks prefer plug n play unless you referring to zigbee and zwave. Maybe later but don't have the time now.



Been thinking of getting a samsung smartthings hub but so far Google plus Smartlife app and a few ewelink stuff worked fine.

Maybe somebody could sell tasmotized lights plugs and switches.
