Home computers harm children's test results

Another thing important for cognitive development is receiving adequate physical affection.

I agree with you Palimino, our education system is biased in favour of a typical western education ( very much based on good comprehension skills), and not enough time or effort is given for children who have other skills or aptitudes, and many of these children who have excellent primal intelligence fall by the wayside because the education system is full of holes and don't cater for the more hands-on practical type of personality.

My post is not **in any way** attempting to diminish the importance of traditional reading. In the race for ‘survival of the fittest’, the traditional reading meme wins hands-down. It is even important for normal Internet activity (Google, Wikipedia, etc.) and will be important for the foreseeable future. Tough titty if you are not visually dominant, it’ll be a disadvantage.

My point is that a love of reading is innate (visually dominant personality) and I am dubious about being able to train it. Everyone (theoretically) exits school able to read. Visually dominant types improve their skills by reading for pleasure. Others restrict their functional literacy to street signs and video-recorder instructions. The education system, as it exists at present, privileges traditional readers. Maybe that needs to change with a new educational paradigm, is my thesis.
