Hi there,

My name is Abigail, I am working on a show for SABC called Vutshila.
We are looking to highlight any sort of technology or science based content that comes from South Africa.

So if you have a tech project, an invention or are just a whizz with gadgets and circuit boards - we are looking for you.

Please let me know if you have any content we can include in the show.

Thanks,

Abi

A good place to look for that kinda stuff is here : http://www.hip2b2.com/ Its Shuttleworths innovation website and most of the stuff there is home grown and then marketed.

Hi Abigail:

1. Look at the Tesla vehicle developed by a South African born Elon Musk. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elon_Musk
He is also involved with a space project, so call him and do a video conference with him.

2. I would focus on the electricity issues. Have a look at the Eskom testing going on with solar generation in Midrand. If you drive through Midrand on the way to JHB you will se a silver dish (big one) on the right hand side of the road. Investigate that solar dish and what Eskom is doing with it. I heard something about the use of a Sterling Engine to generate electricity from the heat the dish receives.

3. Get your heads around the massive camera system used on our roads in Gauteng and elsewhere. The system runs on a network that is truly spectacular. Get behind the scenes. Get the figures, you can run one show just off that!

4. Go to the Civil Protection HQ in Pretoria next to the Union Buildings. The systems they use there, especially their master control and view system would be nice to see on TV...

5. You can also have a look at the survailance systems used on high rise buildings by the metropolitan areas in the CBDs of Pretoria and JHB. Could be nice.
