Omg I am so glad you guys are back!!

I think I will have to install ubuntu server instead.

Does the server have a gui so I can changed the IP address to a static one?

Ideal would probably be to have it like the VPSs I have from ISP's is that possible?

New plan,

I want to load Centos6, however from the ISP the VPS gets build etc and when I get it the ssh details etc are all set up.

How would one go about to set this pc up so I can have it in the cupboard connected to the internet and only use ssh from my work pc to set everything else up? ( basically a vps in my cupboard )

I am fairly familiar with centos and ssh so that would probably better.

(*vps, is not the correct word, since this is dedicated, but you get the idea)

Learn to use cli my nigga, can change everything and more.

Haven't dabbled around in Ubuntu for a while so gonna have to do a bit of googlin myself. I'm sure it's just a line that should be commented out.

Also; install webmin. Can make life a bit easier.

Will be home at around 10ish so can hop on then.

No! Don't google anything I don't want to complicate stuff for the people helping me that would be you.

What OS would you prefer then I will load it and when you have time you can give me a pointer.

I use CentOS for my web server OS with Apache,MySQL and PHP installed. I see you had weird SSH issues never seen them before and I installed SSH from scratch 10 mins later all is working. There are a lot of resources you can use, I Google most of my stuff and then make sure the security around them is correct (I run nessus, acunetix, nmap and other tools). Making these mistakes you will learn from them :)

Just to be sure, are you running CentOS on the home Websever using a dns service and portforward so you can access it from domain.co

Or are your Web servers hosted by an ISP running CentOS?

Because I have a lot of VPSs running CentOS and I love it.

Issue is, I would like to load CentOS on this pc which stands in the cupboard then I have to install inadyn for the dns and assign a static IP and port forward it to be safe mand then I want to be able to ssh into it.

CLI is shorthand for Command Line Interface.
If you really want to learn to use Linux, install and run with no GUI. Do everything in the Command Line Interface.
Otherwise, you would be learning another GUI as you change Linux OS,

For myself is Use Debian. Debian and Debian.

Running Cacheing DNS Server (Bind), Time Services and a FTP Box for remote access to files.
Have a second box running a dyndns updater for change IP on External URL's -Running ADSL
Have a third box running Unotelly updater on a cron Job for Netflix.

When I talk boxes, they are all VmWare Esxi Client Machines.

Currently loading up XEN on a test box to go to a true opensource hypervisor, and then drop VmWare.
