Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew how to correctly host and join a game online via direct IP/TCP connection or more specifically for Homeworld 2. I know how to find my external IP but when my friend enters that and attempts to join it doesn't work. Are there certain ports which I need to manually unblock or is it just impossible?

Thanks!

Install Hamachi on both machines and join the same group. Try it from there.

best guess is that you ( and him) need to forward the ports in use by homeworld to your internal ip's. is a bit of a mission though, and cant remember if i ever managed to get a game working like that.

rather look into something like hamachi( lan over internet)

*DAMN Synergy beat me to it

omg, it works like a charm! Thanks so much dudes!! :D

Sorry omg, seriously you guys are legends!!!!

try checking out "game ranger" too - it's just like hamachi but there are plenty of players - not just you and your buddy

it's easier than hamachi too.

Just a question. Weirdly enough hamachi is only working with Homeworld 2, but all the other games we can't even see each others' games. Any ideas? :(

Yep. Under Network Settings - depending on your OS, the Hamachi adapter needs to have first priority.

Ok, do I change that in task manager under processes?

Edit: Ok no :P
I'm using Vista Ultimate, how would I go about doing that?

Ok we both changed that, but no luck :(. Any other suggestions? Should Internet Protocol 6 be ticked?
