Honda Accord - 2008 - 2011

Figured a new thread was needed here.

I have been eying the new Accord, really nice looking car but 2 things concern me.

A) There are very few of them around. If I spot 1 - 2 a day in traffic that would be a lot. I can only attest this to the fact that they are really expensive. I wouldn't really say overpriced, but when you look at what you can get for the same price its a no brainer. I have never really heard a bad thing about them. But I have to ask, are they good cars?

B) There are quite a number of very low mileage pre owned Accords on the net for a lot cheaper than the retail price. One has to ask why are people getting rid of them at such low Km's?

1 example: 2009 Honda Accord 2.0l Executive 2.0L - 17 000 KM - R229 000.

I think new that model is over R310 000.

I may also be over reading the situation, I am sure there are other cars in the similar boat.

Anyone with an Accord would appreciate your comments :)
 
I do not drive an Accord, but I do drive a Honda. I can definitely vouch for the reliability and build quality of Honda. It is really up there with the best. I am also a member on the Honda forums, and the people only have good things to say about their Accords. This is ultimately your decision, but if that is based on reliability, quality and driving pleasure, then I would not look anywhere else. happy hunting

Thanks Creature. I can't say I have ever really heard a bad word per say about a Honda.

The accord looks like an amazing car and when buying pre owned it seems like you can get a really good deal.
 
You can't go wrong with a Honda mate. They aren't always the fastest car out there, but you enjoy the drive, wherever you go. The Accords are amazing and o so pretty :) One day when I have a family, one consisting of more than me and my fiance, I would also like to have an Accord. But for now the Type R will do. Have you gone for a test drive yet?

Thats precisely why I am looking at the Accord, with 2 kids it seems like the safest, biggest option when it comes to a sedan.

I haven't driven one yet, going to try organise a test drive this week. Some decent deals out there on low mileages.
 
Was interested in the Accord Tourer ... man its a nice car... very nice. But At the same time the Hyundai Sonata is just as nice and has just about as many features at much less. Plus the Accord is nearing face lift / update time....

There are plenty good deals out there. Go drive it, you will love it. Very neat inside and out, and has LOTS of space. Enjoy it mate

If we talking new prices, then I would rather buy quite a few other cars than the Accord. Its just to expensive new.
 
I owned a previous generation Accord and absolutely loved the car. Only reason I sold it was we needed a larger vehicle to transport kids and dogs so we got the CRV. In fact we only own Hondas as they are unrivaled for value for money and build quality

When i drove the new one i compared its rivals here ... The only thing i didn't like compared to others is the deshboard design, it looks a lot more likea 1.6 or hashback cars not the executive. And there still manual controls which should be auto as with the other two cars. Either than that, great car

Thanks I read that thread, very interesting. So you had no complaints about the petrol consumption?
 
I owned a Honda Civic 1.8VXi 2008 model and have only good things to say about it, never once did the car failed or broke unlike my current car :(
 
I had a Ballade, 1995 model, hated that car to bits! So uncomfortable, stiff clutch and gears, and the cam belt snapped on my way to Durban :(

Car was never the same again.

That aside, I still think Hondas are really brilliant cars and as mentioned, if you can get a good low mileage one for a good price then you are set.
 
I owned a new 2008 civic, got rid of it after 2 years. It has the worst clutch and fly by wire throttle you could imagine, absolutely awful in traffic.
If you go drive a BMW, or Volvo gearbox you'll understand that Honda lacks refinement here. For +R200,000 I expected a better gearbox.

However, it was reliable, easy on the eye, just uncomfortable to drive after a few months.
 
Just went down to Honda and test drove a 09 2.0l Auto. Awesome car. Reasonably powerful. Nice and big.

Not a bad price but think I can do better. Was pretty amazed that the salesman told me he couldn't give me a cent off the advertised price. :wtf:

Edit: O and add another R4000 for on the road fees.
