Honda has lifted the covers off its facelifted BR-V in Indonesia, handing the seven-seater crossover subtly updated exterior styling and a few small changes inside.
Up front, the refreshed BR-V has ditched the majority of the pre-facelift model's chrome-effect trim, with the designers instead opting for more reserved black finishes. The headlamps, meanwhile, gain LED daytime running lights.
There’s also a new front bumper, boasting deeper creases and redesigned foglamp bezels. The silver-painted skid-plate, too, has come in for some changes.
Round back, the changes aren’t quite as obvious, although vertically positioned reflectors have been added to the rear bumper and a new chrome-effect strip links the taillamps. Fresh 16-inch alloys have also been added to the mix.

Tested: Honda BR-V offers practical value
SUVs and crossovers… these days there’s one for every season and every reason, from butched up compact hatchbacks for those on a budget to outlandish land yachts for the rich and famous, and just about everything you can think of in between.
Honda’s BR-V is aiming at a more rational client than the average SUV buyer however - targeting those seeking a lot of interior space, and seating for seven, on a relatively tight budget, by SUV standards at least.
With prices ranging between R258 800 for the 1.5 Trend and R318 400 for the 1.5 Elegance CVT, the BR-V is priced directly against the smaller Ford EcoSport, and yet it offers a more practical and versatile cabin with seating for seven.
Built in India, the BR-V shares its platform with the Honda Brio that’s just been discontinued, but it is significantly longer than its budget hatch sibling.
VERDICT
A practical SUV on a budget is a big ask, but the Honda BR-V does a good enough job on most fronts and is versatile enough to fit most family needs. It offers good all round value, but Honda should consider beefing up the safety spec.

A refreshed version of the Honda BR-V has arrived in South Africa sporting “subtle changes” to its interior and exterior design, new features and a tweaked service plan.
The Japanese firm’s local arm furthermore claims improvements have been made to the seven-seater’s “on-road drivability and comfort”, with extra sound insulation added, too.
So, what’s new? Well, the biggest change up front is that LED daytime running lights have been incorporated into the lower portion of the redesigned headlamps. The mid-spec Comfort and range-topping Elegance derivatives, meanwhile, gain rear parking sensors, with the latter model also now featuring a seven-inch touchscreen system with an integrated reversing camera.
The base Trend variant again rides on 16-inch steel wheels (wrapped in 195/65 R16 rubber), while the Comfort and Elegance upgrade to alloy items of the same diameter.

Honda SA has ‘no plans’ to cull BR-V as production in India ends
Honda Motor Southern Africa says it has “no plans” to discontinue the BR-V locally despite the model going out of production in India.
Describing the seven-seater SUV as a “core model” in its line-up, Honda SA suggested it would source the BR-V from another (unspecified) factory.
“Honda Motor Southern Africa has no plans to discontinue the BR-V and is currently securing sufficient stock of the BR-V from India while the alternate factory is being set up for production,” said Dinesh Govender, general manager of automobiles at Honda Motor SA.

The BRV's practicality and massive boot came in handy when I chucked two benches in the back. I folded down the third row of seats which creates 691 litres of boot space and made packing the items into the boot a breeze.

The Honda BR-V Is The Little Big Car You Never Knew You Wanted
Cars get bigger every year. I doubt much could convince Kia now to downsize the Telluride, because people buy big cars. Big cars fit more cargo and more people. But some cars laugh in the face of that paradigm, and I was reminded of this by the Mexican market three-row Honda BR-V, which scoffs at the Telluride’s excess.
For reference, let’s look at the 2021 Kia Telluride. It’s not the biggest three-row SUV/crossover you can buy, but it’s not small. The Telluride seats up to eight passengers. The Honda BR-V seats seven. Not exactly the same, but then again, the Telluride is about 197 inches long and weighs over 4,100 pounds. The BR-V is around 175 inches long and weighs a little more than 2,700 pounds.
That’s a 1,400 pound difference. And for what? For one more passenger? No, thank you, Kia. I’d take the little Honda, all day. I mean, just look at this:

For reference, let’s look at the 2021 Kia Telluride. It’s not the biggest three-row SUV/crossover you can buy, but it’s not small. The Telluride seats up to eight passengers. The Honda BR-V seats seven. Not exactly the same, but then again, the Telluride is about 197 inches long and weighs over 4,100 pounds. The BR-V is around 175 inches long and weighs a little more than 2,700 pounds.
That’s a 1,400 pound difference. And for what? For one more passenger? No, thank you, Kia. I’d take the little Honda, all day. I mean, just look at this:

Honda BR-V replacement previewed by new N7X Concept
Honda’s Indonesian division has revealed a new seven-seat concept called the N7X. Given how production ready this show car looks, not much is likely to change as it transitions into the Honda BR-V replacement.
The Honda N7X has a cleaner and more muscular appearance than the current BR-V, with some inspiration taken from the latest Ballade, which is badged City in its home market. Like the vehicle it replaces, the newcomer aims to blend the practicality of an MPV with the style of an SUV.
Honda didn’t release pictures of the concept’s cabin, but from what we can briefly see in the YouTube video, the dashboard appears very similar to that in the latest Amaze sedan.
No engines have been mentioned as yet, but according to sources abroad the next BR-V is likely to be powered by the familiar 1.5-litre normally aspirated petrol engine, paired to either a manual or CVT continuously variable transmission.
