Is Honda going after Toyota’s Fortuner business? Not quite, but somewhat.

In an attempt to gain greater relevance in the SUV segment, Honda has revealed its new N7X concept.

The images show a vehicle that is close to production specification, with a mildly conservative design.

The N7X features a defined shoulder pinch line, liberally borrowed from Tiguan, and LED headlights with Daytime Running Lights while fancy patterned LED lighting is seen at the rear.

The most important feature of this new N7X, is its seating configuration. Honda doesn’t have a competitive 7-seater crossover or SUV and the N7X, as one would deduce from its name, is supposed to lead that charge.

In markets where gravel travel is a thing, such as Australia, India, South East Asia and South Africa, product planners feel it necessary to have a 7-seater offering – that is not an Ubermobile station wagon.

It looks quite premium. I think so long as it comes in under the 400k mark and has good spec and safety features it should be a compelling buy

yeah, closer to R300k would be better and would then certainly be on my buy list ;)

I doubt that though and if so I don't think the quality nor spec would be as good. The current gen is closer to the R300k mark and obviously the newer one will be more expensive
 

2022 Honda BR-V Revealed​

The all-new 2nd generation Honda BR-V has been revealed. See what’s new.​

The BR-V from Honda is a 7-seater MPV and since its global launch in 2015, more than 255 000 units have found homes around the world.

The 2nd generation Honda BR-V has been revealed in Indonesia and the car has been given a big visual update using Honda’s latest styling language. At first glance, the vehicle looks like it’s a bit more premium. The three-row and seven-seat interior setup has been retained and Honda says more technology has been introduced.

A full photo gallery wasn’t available at the time of writing, but Honda is keen to point out some of the new cabin features like the 4.2-inch TFT on the dashboard and the standard 7-inch infotainment screen. There’s a big focus on practicality too with many storage solutions, compartments and the deep pockets behind the front row of seats.

The BR-V is claimed to have 12V power outlets, 8 water bottle holders and sunvisors. Impressively, the BR-V safety game has leveled up with Honda Sensing semi-auto safety tech, remote engine start and walk-away auto locking.

As before, the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine has been carried over, but for the 2022 BR-V, it has been updated to deliver 89 kW and 145 Nm. Power goes to the front wheels via an updated CVT that’s said to be more fuel efficient.

The N7X is based on the CR-V rather than the BRV and, judging from US prices, will be more than a CR-V, ie over R650k

The CVT gearbox for the new BR-V is similar to the one in the 2019+ CR-V and has a wider metal tube belt which offers more efficient transfer of power, hence better fuel useage
 
All-new Honda BR-V unveiled with modern SUV cues and more features

The all-new Honda BR-V has been officially revealed by the Japanese brand’s Indonesian arm as a rather drastic evolution of the current model. Based on the N7X concept, the new generation embraces an SUV design in full effect and brings with it a number of modern features.

While retaining its seven-seater configuration, the Honda BR-V steps away from its MPV origins with a new dynamic body shape boasting firm lines that blend from the front to the back of the body. At the helm, the manufacturer has applied a more aggressive and sporty appearance with new LED headlamp clusters and DRLs that are integrated into the front grille, at the rear, new LED light bars designed to blend with the body lines are applied for a more fluid look. The SUV sits on a pair of 17-inch alloy wheels to round off the roughed look.

Being a seven-seater, the highlight of the all-new Honda BR-V is within the cabin (of which no official images are available yet) where both the first and second row are provided with armrests to enhance comfort levels while on the go. The new model also features more power outlets in the front console as well as the second and third row of seats. Convenience and entertainment is further provided by the 4,2-inch TFT instrument cluster and 7,0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

New to the Honda BR-V as well is a layer of leather applied to the cabin. This has been used on the armrests, side doors and dashboard panels. Storage space claims to be more flexible to increase its usability with the new armrests boasting small storage compartments. Cup holders are also fitted to the console area while a sun visor with a makeup mirror and lamp, storage compartment with many pockets behind the seat front passenger, eight water bottle holders and third row seats that can be folded up to 50:50 further enhance packaging appeal.

The second-generation Honda BR-V compact SUV has been revealed in Indonesia, sporting a more assertive design and modernised cabin tech.

We’re currently awaiting confirmation on whether the new model is heading to South Africa, but given how popular the first generation was, we’d imagine the local importer would be keen to bring this one here if it can secure right-hand drive production.

Whereas the original Honda BR-V looked very much like an MPV trying to be an SUV, the new model does a far better job at pulling off the rugged look, in our opinion. It also helps that Honda has upgraded to 17-inch alloy wheels, which do a better job at filling the wheel arches.

However, the new Honda BR-V still holds up the MPV side of the equation, and like its predecessor, it seats seven occupants, but pays more attention to the screen addictions of the modern human race with additional 12V power outlets, now covering the second and third rows of seating.

Powering the new Honda BR-V is the familiar 1.5-litre normally aspirated i-VTEC petrol engine, which produces 89kW at 6600rpm and 145Nm at 4300 revs. As before, power goes to the front wheels only. Buyers can choose between a manual gearbox and a new CVT continuously variable transmission that’s said to offer improved efficiency.

Unlike the first-generation BR-V which was produced in India (where production has now ceased), this new BR-V is produced in Indonesia at Honda’s Karawang facility.

Honda BR-V (2022) Launch Review

Honda SA has just introduced the all-new BR-V to our market. Fresh out of a brand new factory in Indonesia and with the pretensions of moving into the SUV segment has the BR-V nameplate got enough weight to make a statement? We sampled it on the Western Cape’s roads at the local launch.

The new BR-V has moved on nicely from those old sparring partners and feels more like a modern SUV to drive although it’s a bit baffling as to why there is no reach adjustment on the steering wheel. It may seem trivial but a buyer’s decision can come down to the smallest of factors and driving position comfort might be to its detriment.

PRICING: New Honda BR-V touches down in South Africa

The second-generation Honda BR-V is being launched in South Africa this week and, as before, it straddles the line between SUV and compact seven-seat MPV.

Yet this time around Honda has given it a more butch-looking design that’s more akin to an SUV than a family runaround.

Pricing starts at R379 900 for the 1.5 Trend, moving up to R409 900 for the 1.5 Comfort and R434 900 for the Comfort CVT, while the range-topping 1.5 Elegance CVT will set you back by R459 900.

Power comes from a 1.5-litre normally aspirated VTEC engine, which produces 89kW and 145Nm, with power going to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual or CVT transmission.

All models are sold with a four-year or 60 000km service plan, five-year or 200 000km warranty and three years worth of roadside assistance.
