Honda quotation fee

Hey there guys,

So I recently took my Honda for service at a Honda dealership. I needed some things looked at such as check airbags, adjust my headlights and check my brake pads.

So I was given a quote with them charging very little for checking airbags and brake pads. However, I was quoted R750 for having my headlights adjusted. So I said to them you don't need to adjust my headlights I can do them myself.

I get a response from them saying thats fine we won't charge you for adjusting your headlights but they are saying there is a quotation fee
So after I declined to have my headlights adjusted the fee for having them adjusted is suddenly free from R750.

Now they want me to pay a quotation fee. So my question is there a policy that Honda charges for quotation fee? Does anyone know if they're just trying to make money or is this legit.

If it is legit can anyone show me where I can find this official policy?

My reasoning is that they realised I'm not going to have my headlights adjusted so they're just going to charge me for a quotation fee. I haven't come across a quotation fee from Honda before.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

First off, WTF?

Second, you say you wanted them to adjust your headlights, and then in the next breath you contradict that statement.

Did you go drinking in the traffic with that other ninja bloke?

Maybe you should think a little and read more carefully before replying. That was my response to them after they told me R750 to have them adjusted.

You sure you aren't drunk? If that's the case you shouldn't be here. Shoo drunk boy. Maybe you shouldn't respond to this post if you're too naive or incapable of understanding.

Why did your airbags need to be checked?

Also, was it one quotation for all the work? or separate quotations?

Well, the warning light for the airbag kept on appearing. So I wanted that checked just in case.

It was one quotation for all the work. My car was in for service so technically they're not allowed sending me a quotation fee. I think that only applies if I request a quotation fee and I don't take my car to them for repair. I'm not sure about this. I just need solid proof that they can't do this.

Your car went for a service and come back with airbag warning?
Your car was all ready at the service, then they did not check your brakes?

Phone another Honda dealer and ask if they charge.

Also inspecting the brakes is part of the service, and aligning the headlight beams should be done at no charge.

Also had a problem with Airbag warning light coming on every now and then on our Jazz. Turned out to be a yellow electrical connector underneath the driver seat that got bumped during cleaning or my wife putting her purse under the seat. Reseated connector and all good.

VW charges me R650 to check my Polo's airbag.

Actually the fee of R650 is for a diagnostic test. So R750 at Honda is kind of reasonable.

R750 is reasonable for a dealership. Their time and diagnostic scans aren't free. You can't check airbags properly without doing a scan.

No sir, warning lights were on before I sent my car in for service. My car is still there but thats not my main concern. Its Honda sending me a quotation fee. There shouldn't be a quotation fee if my car is in for repairs.

The indi mechanic my mom took her car too for a diagnostic scan cost her R500. And that is just for a printout of error codes.

After I told them not to check and adjust my headlights they said they will do it for free whereas previously they said it would cost R750. I get the impression they're just looking to make extra money.

Also the thing is I told them what was wrong with my car and what needed repairs. They didn't really have to do a diagnosis. I just needed to know what it would cost.

Whats bothering me is the quotation fee. There shouldn't be one.

It's not right to charge a quotation fee. If they have not performed any diagnostics but just want to charge you for telling you how much it will cost, it is not fair. I have never come across this in the motor industry before, especially when your car was already in for a service.
If they had to perform a diagnostic to tell you what the cost will be, then they should have disclosed this to you before hand to get your approval, since this will cost you.

Thanks for the reply. This is exactly what I said to them. They have said to me this morning that there is a diagnosis fee for the technician to have a look at my vehicle. I've just told them that I did not ask for a diagnosis as I pointed out what needed to be repaired so no diagnosis was needed nor was one authorized.

I'm not sure what else to tell these sneaky guys

I have no doubt they are a bunch of crooks but how did you think they were going to check the airbags without using diagnostics? I cannot think of any other way...

Diagnostic to maybe give you a full report so they can get more money out of you, but then you told them what you want repaired.
