Hooked on the message

Since when is it technologies responsibility to bring children up?

That said if the creator was genuine in his stance - he would provide some kind of ability to limit use or restrict access via number, if he has not done so already

Good point

As with any content service, if they only provide a simple tool to limit use - for instance, limit access to the service for certain times of the day, etc. As for being addicted to communication, well it's not really that, is it. It is easier to control your normal day to day communication, after all, you don't want 20 firends in the bathroom or bedroom with you when you are using them. Communication on a cell is also alot more time consuming than verbal communication, no matter how good your tapping skills... hence it takes longer to get the message across.

Most kids have a harder time doing things in moderation than adults (admittedly, many adults fail in this department too). With the lack of responsibility other than worrying about passing exams... This is where parents should pay more attention, think harder about creative ways of teaching responsibility instead of dishing out cash for goodies or just dishing out goodies. Learning to say no when it's the right thing to say, not just go with the flow for popularity sake. But start early - it get's harder as they grow.

The anonymity factor is also appealing to many chat users - fantasy and role play. `Normal' hobbies and sport are slowly fading - where I spent 8-10 hours a day in the veld on a weekend hiking, swimming, fishing, etc, my kids just don't have that option. Even sport is limited to school.
