Horrible accident

maybe a few drinks played a role too

"Toyota Corolla and a Hyundai Getz collided at the intersection of Christiaan De Wet and Paul Kruger Roads around 05:15"

i'm thinking thats 05:15am not pm

Its tragic.
Imagine loosing your whole family in a car accident.
I feel so sorry for him.

This accident was on my route to work... saw them cleaning up and towing the vehicles away... very very nasty!!!

far too many of these accidents on this particular road and yes they do speed, I get pushed off the road, even in the left lane by boy racers, cars that pass me, speeding at least at 130km/h. They like to send it through this intersection (Christiaan De Wet & Paul Kruger), at speeds as high as 160km/h They're no longer souping up Golfs and Opels and ****, they're now even souping up the Korean and Chinese trash hondnaais and K@K in Africa (KIA) and Tata and whatever they can get there hands on and this road is one of their favourites because it's downhill towards Roodepoort and the cops don't trap on this road.

My solution, which doesn't go down well on SA forums is to outlaw the souping up of cars and to clamp down on this boy racer phenomenon. Turbo or engine or ECU modification on a car used on public roads = prison sentence and/or fine. Finished and klaar.

Yea! That'll work!

We have laws against speeding that we can't enforce, so let's make a law against "souping up the engine" [1] which we can't enforce either.

Koos

[1] And while you're at it write a watertight legal definition of "souping up the engine" which will stand up in court and accurately distinguish work done to go faster from routine maintenance and factory upgrades.

Impractical to pass such a law. The current laws aren't very well regarded.
Sad that the accident happened, but unfortunately not uncommon.

I say speeders should just ride bikes, this way they only kill themselves when in an accident, why cause other harm for the sake of ur own need for speed? :p
And there's no need to soup up ur engine....

BTW, hope that 18 yr old gets what he deserves...

He needs to face the punisment, but the guy (not the teen) will never have back his family. :(

It is so sad... I feel for that father, he will miss his family.

As for the 18 year old, he will have to face the consequences of his actions.

Hopefully they'll start to do something about the speeding, even though it is too late.
