Those in plain clothes look like detectives and were probably closest and first responders.
Detectives don't wear protection because then they stand out like sore thumbs.

Good observation there... i said earlier, only reason i can think was these guys were close by, got the call and rushed over quickly to ensure those guys dont escape

A reported hostage drama that brought Cape Town city centre to a standstill on Wednesday turned out to be a cellphone theft‚ according to police.

Firemen and armed members of a police special task force entered Cash Crusaders on the corner of Long and Strand streets during the suspected siege.

But after the reopening of several streets that had been cordoned off‚ police issued a statement saying all that happened was a “business robbery”.

It was a business robbery not a hostage situation. So they're saying that a business robbery is somehow not serious at all and that it's just a normal day in SA we should move on. In fact they seem to brush it off like it was a waste of time and resources.

There are videos of the STF in full gear entering the store, so those guys were definitely first responders

STF only goes out to high risk situations they would not go out to a Robbery...

There was obviously staff in the store so it was a hostage situation. Glad it was resolved, just bummed that the perps gave up and didn't resist and got killed...
