sorry i shuold've been more specific... Vodacom. and not really hosting thats the problem, getting to work right is more the problem. their 'accounts' and checking balances, changing services/details parts is a complete mess most of the time.

well i regsiterd for telkoms secure facility a year ago to check my invoices and stuff there. its worked each time, yes it looks a bit 'common' but it works every singel time and u can get what u were looking for, balances, detailed invoices, warra warra. with vodaocm, your lucky to be able to log in and see your balance, nvm a statement
 
I think u guys are confusing the software here. Its Microsoft Software, not Vodacom software (I assume its the new MS Office). Shouldnt have anything to do with the current Vodacom site.
Hopefully this will make it easier / cheaper for companies to use office software.

But, I always thought that cloud computing is mostly beneficial for companies that require higly processor intensive facilities and managed backup facilities. Is this arrangement supposed to serve a similar purpose?

Don't worry - they'll rape you on exorbitant "interconnect" fees when you do connect - via your hosted service. And they will invent new mysterious charges to bamboozle you with lingo and moerse rates to go with those strange new acronyms that do nothing other than fill lines on an invoice and channel money into their account.

Hell... they even tried to charge me a monthly service fee (and non-payment fees etc.) for 4 months... this AFTER they approved and actioned my number porting over to Cell-C. Yes, they're that desperate to rape the public.

I looked at Vodacom Business's products after doing a long vetting process of the major market players. My impression was that the TCO if you take just a single part of the total package works out to a moersa moola. So for the ave Joe, VB wont raise a smile. Considering them for total business solution make more sense and works out to be le$$. eg: Primary Diginet Line (for VPN with assured kbps) with WiMax as Auto Failover (Backup) works out to just +-10% more than Telkom's Diginet with 3G as Failover. Take into account having phone calls breakout from VB (all national and internation in certain countries = Telkom local rate) as apposed to from normal Telkom's lines at each site, works out to a TCO being less with VB.

Am I missing somethin? We are an SMB with 4 sites and total of 7 ADSL Lines (90GIG Total Caps) using 7 Failover Lines on 3G accounts (1GIG Cap) with Diginet to SAIX 768kbps HO (uncapped) ALL OVER INTERNET FOR OUR VPN! ohh...and 2 Diginet P2P for Voice between 2 sites.

Now... I added the current M2M TCO and did a high level excersize with the Proposed VB M2M TCO and it seemed to me that the Data Comms and Voice Comms over VB with their "Expertease" seems to make $$$ sense!

AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE??? ANY COMPANIES OUT THERE ON VB MICROWAVE / WIMAX / DIGINET OVER MPLS FOR VPN??? HOW IS THE UPTIME? SERVICE? SPEED?

At a later phase, we will be considering outsourcing our entire server room. (Hosted Computing).

i heard of something called virtualbox? Whats that about? Something similar to this?
 
I believe they offer hosting on something like "virtualbox" if not exactly it. So if i run 10 X Physical Server Boxes taking up a moersa amount of Eskum+35% elektricity, then I might look at "Vitualization" and pack a few "Server OS Systems" onto one Box. But then in a few yaars, that Box becomes a dooes and i might wana buy a new 1.

Now i would think that it would make more sense if someone else takes that "risk and cost" and manages at their cost and charges me a flat rate and i never have to worry about "Upgrading hadware and reinstalling OS"...

ofcos...feasability needs to be done.

--cost of 10 servers over every 5 years + License = ZAR500,000.00 + R1000 mnth (Eskum) + R5000.00 mnth (Server Engineer SLA) = 10 Year TCO = R1,220,000.00 (10 Years) R10,166.67 (mnth)

--cost of having the 10 Server OS Systems on a 2 X Virtual Environment Server + License = R150,000,00 + R200 mnth (Eskum) + R1000 (Sever Engineer SLA) = 10 Year TCO = R120,000.00 (10 Year) R1,000.00 (mnth)

--Cost of having the 10 Server OS Systems on a Tailored Hosted Environment like Vodacom Business Data Center at Midrand = R?????
Here, you would rent processor + memory + storage + license + support. What will this cost Year or Monthly??? less than R10k or more?

BTW...I've had the "Privilage" of visiting "BP" in Lonton App Testing center where they host their Machs....EISH...
And then I visited Vodacom. hmmm...I WAS IMPRESSED. Now can they provide it at a "Reasonable" cost to SMBs and nothing less than *GREAT* Service Delivery? It's alot of money to gamble!

Anyone out there using their full business suite that can offer a good reference an assurances?
