Hosting: Domains.co.za vs Elite Host

I currently have a Website at Hetzner and have had issues with their support on a few occasions since signing up with them.

1. They take a few hours to a day to reply to emails
2. To me it doesn't seem like they take time to think things through before replying.
3. Their support is worse in my experience than the support I got from Cybersmart. At least Cybersmart's hosting support would reply quickly (Even at 3am) and they read through my replies.
4. The hosting does not seem much more responsive that when I moved it from Cybersmart, and I am paying R81 more per month.

What I would like to know is who is recommended? Elite Host or Domains.co.za. Both of them have replied to emails quickly and been very helpful in explaining everything to me and will handle the move of my website.

So in the end, from experience of forumites, who would provide a better service and faster server speeds?

I am looking at either Domains R49/month or Elite Host's R35 per month. I wouldn't be looking at going Elite Host's business hosting route just yet as I have wasted enough money at Hetzner with them trying to install SSL certificates, etc. and getting things wrong.

I will be running a site similar to this on the server.
 
Domains.co.za is very good with support. I have not used Elitehost so can not comment. I am happy with the money I spend at domains.co.za.
 
been using elitehost for about 6 months and its been great, a few communication issues here and there but good overall
 
Everyone seems to be happy with Elitehost. So I'd say you can't go wrong with them.

There are other hosts to pick from too if you are interested: http://hostingweb.co.za. We've recently started monitoring some of the hosts uptime too. Only a handful but it's a start.
 
Thanks :) I am just a little worried that with Elitehost, the service will be a little slow in terms of their server speeds having unlimited everything. I would rather have the limit Domains puts on their hosting if it means a better, faster, more stable service.

Let me just correct you here. Domains.co.za provide excellent support and all their staff is very knowledgeable. I've got a few cloud servers with them and hosting accounts and their support is very quick.

Their servers are very quick, hosted locally and very responsive.

Thank you, this is my main concern, along with support.

Support, I'm quite confident that both companies are brilliant at, so between them, I would mostly be concerned about the speed of their servers.

Let me just remind you, their cloud servers are all run on solid state drives. In filezilla, browsing through the Cloud server directories feels like browsing a local drive and it displays my site instantly through a browser. It takes a second to connect but then the html and images are delivered instantly.

I've got a wordpress site with about 15 plugins installed and it shows up immediately after the initial connection time.

Hi,

Our shared hosting at domains.co.za is done on E5 servers, 32GB to 64GB RAM and SSD Hard drives. We try and optimize our shared hosting servers to have a nice balance of performance and reliability.

We have a staying internally, when putting in infrastructure there are 3 factors: cost, performance and reliability.
You can only pick 2 of them and we choose the latter.

Elite host is marvelous ! So is Domains used both, either way you cannot go wrong imo
 
I had a couple of issues with Elitehost and Cloudflare lately.

The support is absolutely brilliant. The problem wasn't on Elitehost side, but they got it sorted after a few days, including a weekend.

I've never waited more than 20 minutes for a human reply and solution and that was once. Most of the time the response and solution is within 10 minutes.

In IT things will always go South quickly, but it is how you deal with it, that counts.

I will punt Elitehost every time I get a chance.
They are brilliant.
 
Thank you all for the comments. Hetzner is going to refund me for the hosting and for the mess ups that they made for me, so I'm all set to change to my new host.

I'm still trying to decide who would suit me best. Both providers do what I need.

Does anyone use either host's shared hosting and can they comment on the responsiveness of the servers? The worst thing is a slow website, or even a slightly slow one. For now my needs are basic, so not much bandwidth or space required, just a responsive enough server so as to not chase away any visitors.

So far my usage at Hetzner is as follows for the month:
- Traffic: 70 MB
- Disc Usage: 565.88

I would guess the traffic would go up to about 500 MB in a year or so and Disc usage to about 2 GB.

Muscletalk is hosted on afrihost atm, but.... I am moving it over to elitehost next month.


With elitehost I have a VPN and 2 shared hosting packages and its marvelous.

Marvelous in the sense since I have been with elitehost my muscletalk forum was down for a combined time of almost 5 days and my elitehost has not experience downtime yet

So that's why I want to move, the forum is not business critical atm since it's still small, hence why I am only moving it next month.

Basically I believe the following.

Keep your DSL with a pure DSL company and keep your Hosting with a pure hosting company.


Dont buy into the Jack of all trades

And your email with an email company. I'm glad there are some that actually feel the same way I do. If you have everything at one place, you stand a good chance of all services going down/lack of support etc

Elitehost is awesome. Their response times are actually faster than domains.co.za
