Have you guys tried hosting your own website on your Ubuntu Desktop pc? Obviously my internet connection is way too slow for this but I just want to try this.

Obviously for testing purposes it works nicely, but not much point otherwise unless you work at a hosting company :D

Code:
sudo apt-get install apache2 php phpmyadmin

Go!

ADSL upspeed not too great

Why not just install the server version inside Virtualbox and learn to do it properly instead?

It's not really all that difficult anyway.

been thinking of that, but space is limited..

If space is a limitation then virtualbox is definitely the way to go.

Have a webserver VM running, takes up all of 1.5GB (of a dynamically expanding disk, up to 8GB). As opposed to say an entirely used 8GB partition.

You could also run it off a 4GB flash drive if you so wish...
/runs and hides in corner

Ok so my server is running.. the testing pages etc is showing but how do I go about putting files into this /var/www directory?
