Hosting on Ubuntu Desktop

Have you guys tried hosting your own website on your Ubuntu Desktop pc? Obviously my internet connection is way too slow for this but I just want to try this.

Why not just install the server version inside Virtualbox and learn to do it properly instead?

If space is a limitation then virtualbox is definitely the way to go.

Have a webserver VM running, takes up all of 1.5GB (of a dynamically expanding disk, up to 8GB). As opposed to say an entirely used 8GB partition.

You could also run it off a 4GB flash drive if you so wish...

it sounds like you would be better off with windows explorer and iis hahahhaha

Use WinSCP, log in with your Ubuntu username and password.

Don't use ftp, you'll still have to install a ftp server to do that. Use WinSCP as bio suggests above.
