Morning All :)

I am designing a simple webpage for our gaming clan. I am using a Joomla template. At the moment I am working on my PC using Xampp.

I am a bit of a noob :p How would I get this up and running on the web? What are my hosting options and prices etc. How would I register a Domain?

Edit: Sigh spelling fail... registering

Hi

I use the following company for all my domain registrations and hosting. After my troubles with MWEB I now stick to a smaller ISP that can provide a more personalised service. www.webnow.co.za

Just email them and they will sort everything out for you.

Hope this helps

Or you can just use godaddy, and then you always keep control of the domain. Point it wherever the hell you want:P

As for hosting, pick anyone.

http://co.za - for .co.za domains
something like godaddy for .com domains

find a host, plenty around

and ditch joomla and use wordpress, much simpler :p

I'm hosting my site with Afrihost, R49 for 3gb of traffic and 3gb of disk space if you go down the Linux route. Windows hosting ousts much more and you have to pay for every template(if you can't develop your own).

Willem is that 4gb a month? How many email accounts and db's allowed?

Yes, 4GB traffic per month, 5 db's, unlimited email accounts, but limited by disk space, unlimited email redirects (useful for fighting spam), 10 subdomains, 1000s of downloadable html templates, 50+ easy to use install scripts such as wordpress, CMSs, online shops and more, cpanel and webmail. Basically everything you'll ever need for most websites.

Many people ask why not unlimited disk space/traffic? I'm dead set against unlimited/uncapped of anything. When there are caps, both parties know exactly where they stand. However, none of my clients even come close to the limits set, even the ones who so greatly complained about not having unlimited traffic. Yet, I can control all the limits and if by the end of the month you are getting close to your limit, I'll be happy to make an adjustment to accommodate you. That is the advantage of making use of a smaller establishment, things are not so carved in stone as with big companies, see Mweb's procedures thread here.

How long will it take to transfer my domain and opencart website?

Thanks for the response guys. I really appreacaited it! I am still looking at everything and still deciding...

@D3x I found a really good template that I liked which is why I stuck to Joomla. I will look at Wordpress for future developement.
