Old wives' tale or true?

Have heard so many times that healthwise, the best thing is to start the day with a cup of hot water. Even better, add some lemon juice to it.

Allegedly, it flushes out toxins, improves your skin's appearance and even aids in weight loss.

i dont see how this can be more beneficial?
start the day with an apple and cell food...

How would hot water be more beneficial than normal room temp water?

I just asked a nutrition student - she reckons that the warm water helps increase your metabolism. She couldn't tell me why though, so I'm still doubtful...

I drink it. Loves lemon juice!
Flushing out toxins i doubt. I just do it to because i'm thirsty in the mornings.
Weight loss - nope i'm still fat.

The warm part : my mom showed me an article about your intestines or tummy that likes luke water better than cold (icy cold) water.
Winter I make it like tea. You slice up the lemon and pour hot water over the lemon and drink it like tea. Very tasty.

I believe that Vit A E C the vitamins is that are best for your skin so I guess it should help for that part.

i drink coffee and rooibos, the rooibos makes me eat like a horse. i don't think it's the hot water.

The following should provide some answers:

Drinking warm lemon water as your morning drink helps in aiding your digestive system to help in the easy elimination of waste materials from the body. It also ensures smooth bowel movements thereby preventing the problem of constipation and diarrhea. If you have problems like heartburn, indigestion or bloating, then warm lemon water can help you out. It is not only helpful for your stomach, but also for your entire health. This is because lemon water has powerful antioxidant properties and it strengthens our immune system to provide protection from various elements. Moreover, the high potassium content in it makes it favorable for people with heart problems. Research has also found out that lemon juice can help your live function in a much better way.

I normally put all the toxins (read: alcohol) back into my system on the weekends, so helps me naught.

A drink i have become rather addicted to, and its very good for the system:

1 Lemon sliced up
1 medium sized piece of ginger (2 -3 times the size of oxo cube) roughly chopped.
Put into coffee plunger and pour boiling water over, let it draw and then plunge the concoction a few times, (liquid should be "misty)
Pour into a cup and sweeten with honey.

So good :D

When feeling flu'y or coming down with a cold, best remedy.

It's a lie ... you can't get aids from a cup of hot water.

:p

Isn't lemon juice acidic, and therefore bad for your teeth?

Dunno bout you, but i don't swoosh tea around my mouth before swallowing. Eating a slice of lemon would be different. That said, I think sugars are worse for your teeth.

I squeese them and drink the juice too. I also buy and drink the bottled juice.
