How bad is Sinotec actually?

My trusty 7 years old 42'' LCD just gave in this week, HDMI ports and control unit dead. Can still switch it on with the power button and watch through the RCA ports (AV1 and AV2) and the aerial.
Can the HDMI ports and the control unit be fixed?
Yes, but it might not be worth it.

Panel quality is good.

Sound is k@k

Get a soundbar and you are set!!

R3999 at Game this weekend. Its between this and a Hisense 40" for R4300. This TV will be used 95% for Xbox gaming.

So I bought this TV last night. It was the last one at Somerset Mall. Zewenwacht Mall was sold out. My biggest problem now is the existing wall bracket for the 42" Samsung Plasma that is installed in the room doesn't fit the Sinotec.

Which type of wall mount brackets should I be looking at?

Hi everyone. I wonder if anyone could offer some advice? I bought a Sinotec Smart HD 55 TV late last year and we struggle to get it to stream anything properly without constantly buffering. We have sufficient bandwidth and speed with Telkom landline and wifi with Mweb - they've confirmed, even though my son's separate tv is also linked - but we can just not get it right. And on top of this i've just discovered that I cannot get ShowMax or Netflix on this TV. I really feel ripped off. Any advice, please?

That's odd.

Generally it's a standard VESA mount? What are the models?

It is standard VESA mount. Just get an Android box and don't use the built in smart TV features

Sinotec/Skyworth on their budget to mid Range TV's use their own smart TV ecosystem. The base is Android, so you can sideload apks but on top of Android they use a UI portal by netrange that optimizes the UI for TV. With this Google play services is missing and some apps will refuse to run.

Advice:

1. If you happy with picture quality of the tv then keep it and get an android box.

2. Or if you not happy and want to return the TV then get the Skyworth G6, this comes with Android TV and is certified by Google so you will get Netflix and Showmax. This starts from R9000 for 49inch.

The quality of Sinotech really is not bad at all.
We have always had Sinotec as far as flat panel tv's are concerned.
We bought the first 43" tv approximitately 8 years ago. The playstation worked well on the tv, colours were good and no lag.
Two years ago we bought another Sinotec - 49". Colours are also really good and no lag when playstation connected.
The Explorer 2 HD channels looks really good on the newer Sinotec.
Cannot complain about Sinotec, price, quality and reliability is very good what we experienced so far.

Interesting comments here and thanks for sharing.
I am currently looking at getting a TV and i am looking at between Hisense or Sinotec 49 inch.

Budget R6.500

I bought a HiSense last weekend at Makro.
50" UHD 4K unit. Was on special for R6999. I suspect its end of line but thats ok, im satisfied with it and price was right. Model is 50N3000UW. Has the usual 3 x hdmi, 2 x usb, digital audio out and built in wifi, sound is quite good as well. No rca audio out though. Its my second HiSense, previous one was a 6 year old 32" unit, was time for an upgrade. Im not sure what applications Sinotec has preinstalled and if there will be new applications available. The HiSense has youtube, netflix and an open browser. Showmax is not available for HiSense

If you have audio equipment with rca input, just order online a digital to analog audio converter then you can use your audio equipment with your new tv if it only has digital audio out.

So, still in the process of finding the best screen for the least amount of money, I've come across two options for me.
1: The Samsung LN40D550 - 40" 60Hz LCD screen. On special at Makro for R4999
2: Sinotec MP-47HU27 - 47" LCD Screen. Also on special at Makro for R5499

My uses are (in order of most important / often):
  • TV Shows from an Atom PC (max res of 1280x720 anyway)
  • XBOX Gaming and other related things
  • DVD's
  • Blu-rays

I am still open to the idea of getting a Plasma as a lot of the content we wach is <= HD-ready but am scared that this will affect Blu-ray and XBOX experience negatively.
For a Plasma it would have to be a big screen size (>42") for the same kind of price.
We do not watch any sport, so that's not a big deciding factor as it is for many others.

The average distance from the screen is 3-4m and we are getting a Kinect this week so that is another important factor.

I would rather get the Samsung just based on quality of panel, software, etc. but 7" extra is a huge reason to go for the Sinotec. Could anyone help me out with my decision?

My max budget is around R6000, so any alternatives would be great.

Thanks!
