How bad is Sinotec actually?

Sinotechs come with a 5 year warranty and a wall mount bracket vs 1 year warranty + no bracket from the premium brands.

nah, don't be anal dude, not fixing grammar, fixing a spelling mistake.
now you know when to use lose and when to use loose, just say ty.
i still sometimes wont use caps and whatnot, that takes effort.

anyhow back on topic.

my LG is the only tv (I have 4) that I plug in an external hd and it can play movies direct from USB, none of my other TVs can do that, though to be honest, haven’t tried the Sinotec as I use it for games only.

re the size, I find the 47" is huge for games, so you can't always see the full screen when playing say black-ops and some dude is camping in a dark corner at the top of the game, especially cause (or because in case you going to be anal) i sit about a metre away from the screen.
But otherwise, picture quality, can’t find any fault with the Sinotec , which I suppose is all that counts.

Don't be anal??? Who do you think you are? You're the one who had to correct my incorrect use of the word loose. Open a grammar school if peoples' spelling bothers you but don't lecture people on a forum about their spelling. I well know the difference between loose and lose. I just can't be bothered to spell and grammar check every post I make because it simply doesn't matter in a place like this. So don't go around correcting other peoples' spelling if you can't stick to the rules yourself.

And maybe for a second research the points you state. The media player on the Samsung is better than LG which is better than the one one the Sony. There are threads on the AVS-forum showing exactly which TV is able to handle which file. Of course, a TV without a USB port won't be able to play any file at all so this comparism is only valid for TVs equipped with USB ports. Stupid comment.

Don't you think size depends on your viewing distance? I wanna see you sitting 5m away from the TV with a 32". Stupid advice.

yawn.....

did you miss breakfast today?

lets declare you the winner of the grammar spat, you can choose your prize, a noddy badge or a wet willy.

Won't touch samsung, had too many problems with samsungs, the LG is great.
This thread though is about if Sintoecs are bad, and the short answer, actually, no, they are not.

and by jolly jove, just checked the sinotec, and it doesn't have USB, well bend me over and call me Nancy, never checked that, so I'm guessing if you want to use your TV as a usb media player, don't buy a sinotec.

Brilliant!

Tim, I dont doubt that there is a difference between brand names and non brand names. What I doubt is whether that difference is worth the price difference. Lets not forget the concept of branding - getting consumers to pay more than something is worth because they attach more value to it, often for unclear or irrational lessons.

So, I have a 42 inch by Dsign TV, and you know how often I wished I had bought a 42 inch samsung, or LG? Never. I never have. I walked out of hi fi corp having paid my R5000 and thinking I got quite a bargain. samsung 42 inchers were going for R9000 at the time.

Guess what, "getting consumers to pay more than something is worth" is a common phenomenon in two groups of good. Very expensive ones (see Prada etc) and - I know you won't believe me - cheap goods.

Budget articles often are of such low quality and use such cheap inputs that profit margins on these items are much higher than on more expensive items. In other words; these goods are cheaper than premium products but offer less value and quality for money. And that's the case with most budget TV brands. Do some research or keep telling yourself what you believe in, I don't care.

Anyways, I'm out of here, not worth my time. Too many self righteous fat people and jealous cheapasses have entered this thread.

whats that saying...pot calling the kettle black?

so don't go tim, I learnt my sinotec doesnt have usb.

so yeh, you come across as a bit of a chop, but thats ok.

hahahahhahaha, man its just TV's, take a chill pill, don't lose your cool.

Nice to know that we reached the limit of your pathetic debating skills. Whenever someone disagrees with you, just like a certain Eric Cartman, you insult them, and then take your toys and run home.

But since you posted a point...

Cheap goods are, by definition, cheap. What happens when you put a large margin on a cheap item? Answer: it isnt so cheap anymore.

How do you manufacturers of cheap stuff make money, you ask? By VOLUME. What they lack in margin they make up for in units shipped, and this in fact is why they push so hard on costs. The lower they can sell something for, the more people will buy it. Now if they added a large margin to that, it would, by definition, not be cheap, and hence would not sell as well as it it were cheap, which we know these things are.

I find it more telling that you have an elitist attitude with regards to TVs, so you resort to such leaps of logic to convince yourself that they are in fact better, and worth the money, than cheaper TVs. Dont worry, I'm not dissing you for buying Samsung stuff. My PC monitor is a Samsung XL2370, after all. What I'm dissing you for is claiming that just because something has the Samsung, or Phillips label on it, that it is worth the extra money compared to Sinotec. Its better, yes, but is it 100% better? Or just 10% better?

I do irrational stuff. I buy Levi's jeans and nothing but Levi's jeans. I'm sure Lee jeans are as good, and cheaper, but you know what? I like Levi's. The difference between you and I is that I dont invent reasons why Levi's are better and Lee are worse. I recognize my irrationality.

In other words, grow up.

Why buy a BMW when you can buy a Cherry which will take you from A to B? Why buy a smartphone when your Nokia 3310 can make calls?

Because some people care about quality and don't want to settle for 2nd best. Or third best, or one of the worst in case of Sinotech. Sure it fulfills its purpose and if that's all you care about buy a Sinotech, buy a Cherry and treat yourself with McDonalds on your birthday :D

Because when the Cherry breaks, it cost me a McDonalds burger to fix where the Beamer is going to cost me the price of the Cherry.

I think the reason everyone is defending Sinotec TV's here is that they offered good value for money a few years back.

I paid R4k for my 32 2 years ago, came with wall mount a bonus.
Signed up for DSTV+HD decoder the same day.
Other TV's where priced at R6k+ like LG, Samsung and Sony being the priciest.
A friend of mine who repairs TV's (not saying his is an expert) and I compared the 32 TV's together at the time, fiddled with settings on all side by side.
Tuned them in with HTX dvd.
There was stuffall difference that indeicated that a R2000 more set was any better - That was back then.

Today I would get a branded set as they are a comparably cheaper and Sinotec have not kept up with the times.

They afforded many people Big screen TV's at the time which is why I and many others stand by our purchases.

I can't put up with these Sinotec fanbois in this thread any longer. Clearly they have bad eyes or are just trolling to make themselves feel better about their own purchases.

My final advice:
If you can find a 40" 100Hz sony/samsung/lg for under 6k buy that.
Otherwise get the LA40D550, its a great TV with great quality picture.
If size is that important to you that you would rather get a bigger but worse quality TV then get the Samsung PS51D450 for 7k. Its 51" inch, has a very good picture quality and outstanding value for money. Note its not FHD and its a little reflective. Very good TV nonetheless. Some people (you know who you are) argue this has a better picture than the FHD LAXXD550
Lastly, if you have a bit more to spend and can't live without the FHD just get the LA46D550 or the Sony EX46????
But whatever you do, don't get a Sinotec.

Did you even read the thread title dude.As far as I can tell the 0P wanted USERS of Sinotecs to give their experiences and opinions and that's exactly what transpired. Now all of a sudden we are labelled fanbois that you can't tolerate. No where do I recall Sinotec users knocking other brands to make the unit seem more appealing.I think you need to get off your high horse and actually read for a change.

Yeah i got my Sinotec 42' in 2009 for R8000. At the time all the Samsungs,Lg's etc were 10,13 and even 15k!
I can't believe a 47' is now that cheap  All I can say is I have watched so many movies on it,played PS3 (bit of lag and blurry) no problems and general TV.
I am still pleased with my purchase but i just bought at the wrong time. Like literally a month later the HDTV prices just started dropping. When I can afford a new tv in a few years time i will opt for a better brand name and the Sino will be my bedroom tv :)

to the OP - go for the Sammy.Unless you want a 47' beast :)
Anyways i still thank Sinotech for giving us cheap mense a shot at HDTV when it was still 'sliced bread'.All the name brands are finally coming to the price party. Put it this way : Just think of alllll the thousands of people who walked into Game and bought the Sinotech because the picture was acceptable compared to the big name brands. They not worried about PS3,XBOX,pc output,blu-ray etc. They just saw a decent TV for a unbeatable price and grabbed it.Most of us are spec obsessed... some people don't give to sheets about that but more on price.

p.s - i still got 3 years on my warranty ;)

My old man bought a Samsung 46 " LED and the built in media player does not play all files so if you want a media player ? get a media player

Of course it doesn't play all media files - that's not the point of the tv, it is simply a great tv by a reputable company with this feature on the side. It is by no means its primary attraction and in any case it is near impossible for it to play almost any kind of file due to codec issues as well as certain copy-protected content, etc.

Wow, HiFi are selling the 32D550 for R4599. That or spend R400 to get 40". Madness :)
Maybe we'll have a look at that LG as media player not really important - too much fiddling.
Game offers the 'beat any price' thing by 5% so going to try Game and tell them about the Makro special. Should get it there for R4750 or so.

No, it's 'Beat the difference in price by 10%'.

Ok, so I went out and bought the TV yesterday at Makro for R4999.
Went to HiFi Cop before hand and looked at the LG. They said that if Makro is offering that TV for so little don't hesitate to buy it, it's incredible.
Set it up, installed firmware updates (love that - who would've thought you'd be plugging your TV into the internet and upgrading the software on it 3 years ago :P) and wow, this thing is awesome!
40" is perfect size, much bigger and it wouldn't have fit in the TV and would have been overwhelming.
LOVE the Anynet feature (turns on devices and sets them up when you want to do things like watch a movie) - now only need the one remote as the TV controls everything else.
Played a Blu-ray on it last night and picture was ridiculously clear, didn't notice any problems (such as motion blur or whatever).
Still need to use it a bit more but I am absolutely super happy with the purchase and would recommend this TV to anyone and everyone - especiall for this price (ends Sunday).

Thanks to all who helped out, very much appreciated.
Jonno
