How can I do this with a BB Z10

Generally decent design and performance for the hardware (going to exceptional, in some cases, like the Z30's speakers), combined with a really good operating system. In my opinion, some of the things that make them special:
The Hub - a central place for all messages and notifications.
Invocation framework, for easy sharing between apps.
Cloud and computer integration into the file system.
Superb multitasking.
Gesture-based OS.
Amazing keyboard, including flick-typing, and automatic language switching.

All ticked in Android for years. Has their app store improved? I heard some time ago it seriously lacked a decent store and apps

So I guess the comments from my friends, family and colleagues doesn't carry any weight. By your reasoning one should not trust any reviews on the internet either because "you must own it first". That doesn't make any sense at all.

I've read lots of reviews on many different phones and the experience varies by the user. Those are just general guidelines... The older Blackberries were unreliable but they've come a long way

Android may have some of those features, and some to a lesser degree; iOS, not so much. The level of integration on BB10 is excellent though, and the features are built-in, not needing to be downloaded. Do you really get messages for all your mail services, as well as Twitter, Facebook, etc in the mail app in Android? Can you access files off your home PC without any third-party software? Does the built-in Android keyboard offer the level of autocorrection, flick-typing and automatic language switches that BB10 does (on my Z30, I can start typing Afrikaans halfway through a sentence, and it starts suggesting Afrikaans words for me)?

I don't use the built in keyboard. I use SwiftKey which can switch mid sentence between languages.

EDIT: Check out the list of stock built in apps on say a Samsung Galaxy S5 and please tell me if the BB has the same stock features and app functionality... You don't have to, I am just demonstrating that it is a senseless way to compare.

And I still don't know what makes the BB so special.

I will agree that it is horses for courses. The die-hard BB fanboy will stick to and defend BB against sensibility. I would much rather take a windows phone if Android or iOS gets banned by some miracle.

To be honest, I have no real issue with Android. It seems to work just fine, and I like the flexibility; I personally prefer BlackBerry 10, but that's an issue of taste. I get a little confused by the iOS people though, pushing a rather limited OS.

As for Windows Phone; I used one for a couple of weeks, and while it's perfectly competent, it was bland, and offered nothing over Android or BB10.

BlackBerry World is perfectly adequate - certainly better than the Windows store, whatever the nominal number of apps is. The sheer number of apps is not a measure of how good the store is; what matters is that you can get apps that you need. For example, while the Apple Store is enormous, I know many iPhone users who have downloaded fewer than 10 or 15 apps; by comparison, I have over 180 BlackBerry apps on my phone.

Apart from BlackBerry world, BB10 users can easily access the Amazon and 1Mobile Android stores, and most Android apps from there work just fine. In fact BB OS 10.3 will ship with the Amazon store app preinstalled. By sideloading Snap, the Google Play store is accessible too; the small percentage of Android apps that don't work are the one with a reliance on Google Play Services.

Honestly, the BB is not the best phone. There are better phones. Having said that, at the time I got my Z10 it was R2500. I don't know any other phone that can compete at this price point.

The BB OS is excellent. The only issue was the lack of apps which has been sorted by allowing android apps to be installed. The gesture based UI is unique and a pleasure to use...

I'm not a BB fan boy, I just find it to be a really good phone... I use it as an iPod and my daily phone is a Note 3... I've had many androids and iphones as well so I'm not biased

I remove them since I am rooted, but there are a lot of people using the bloat. I even replace some of them. The phone can take a micro sd card. I don't see why people moan about internal storage of they can just pop in a 64GB card.

I don't need all of them all of the time, thankfully! I only use about 30 or so day-to-day. The balance are odd ones that I occasionally use, like magnifying glass, or spirit level, or altimeter.

Let me put it this way: I have about 180 BlackBerry apps, and 17 Android apps via Snap. Of those 17, 3 are actually just newer versions of the same app that is available on BlackBerry World. So Snap is really there to fill in the gaps.
