I made this suggestion to them on twitter but they ignored it:
- A real win-win for both iBurst and customer would be if iBurst loaded up
http://www.owncloud.org onto one of their servers. It is free and open source.
- Now allow customers to install an ownCloud client, give us, say 20Gb or more of online space, and don't deduct our ownCloud traffic from our bundle when we are on-net.
- Now we have a dropbox-style cloud backup of our docs and photos, etc. Also have the ability to share them with friends, have a sync'd calendar and contacts, like Google. Basically a full, locally-hosted cloud solution with smartphone and desktop clients.
- Allow us to rent more storage if we need. Additional revenue source right here.
- For iBurst, this improves customer retention, because once our data is in your server, we will be reluctant to switch. This is why the on-net traffic must be free - it costs iBurst nothing, and gets our data onto the server.
- Make sure you install the server-side encryption plug-in, so that our data is private.
This would be a killer value-add that costs iBurst little, but generates revenue, retains customers, and makes iBurst buzzword-compliant
