How did you decide on what to study?

Music, series and being left alone mainly. I think I'm fairly okay with computers. I don't really get along with people

Let me know if you find something that meets these criteria...I'd be severely tempted :)

If you're into animals, some kind of veterinary job might be a good place to start...maybe reception \ accounts at the vet to pay your bills (doubt it will pay well enough to pay for studies also - might need a loan for that) while gaining work experience (it's what the front-desk girl at my vet is doing).

Bonus: the 2 vets I see at the practice talk to my cats more than they do to me...so I'm guessing you could get away with not speaking to people too often

Try some psyc tests to help you figure out your strengths and then go in that direction

I find this test incredibly interesting and its free

http://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test

It has a Career section as well.

As much as your passions are important you might not know what they all are,
personally I discovered what I enjoy a couple years after leaving varsity.
For some its quick because they get exposed to it early on in live, others only learn about true opportunities years later

Whats difficult with careers is that there are so many types out there but most people can only recommend
"doctor, lawyer or accountant" because thats all they know.

What about chocolate taster or clothes organizer? (as 2 examples)
Find an industry that you are interested in, through some self reflection and guidance from psyc tests,
and then find the path to get there.

Don't know what drew me into computer science. There were quite a few majors I was interested in, but I had a sort of gut feeling to choose compsci. Couldn't be happier.

First you should complete matric...you won't get far without it unless you start your own business. Surely you can do it part-time while working.

Secondly, look into math/science/engineering. Khan Academy has a lot of short courses that give you a taste of particular majors. Coursera offers something similar. Just look around and see what you like. Much better than wasting money on a useless aptitude test.

If all else fails...http://www.sugardaddybaby.co.za/

I answered the following:

What am I passionate about?
Nature

How can I be of service to others?
By informing people about the importance of our natural resources and sustainable use. Remember being of service to others does not necessarily mean dealing with people directly so if you can answer this, you’ll be halfway there…

Today, I’m in Environmental Education.

Explore and find the thing that energises you but most importantly get that matric:)

PS. Do what you love and everything else will follow.

I did ENV EDU at unisa last semester. Fascinating module that I really enjoyed.

Have dabbled in both those fields in my varied work history. Don't, they'll bore you to death.
I've been a tester and an automation tester as well and i agree, it's the most mind numbing job in the world but since OP is a receptionist... it might up the salary dramatically.

Akasha, I must say, your posting and posting trail is quite interesting. i don't know you at all, but to sum you up, just from your own word :
-------------
I think I'd go to jail for killing someone if I had to deal with the constant stupidity
I didn't finish matric
I would've been way more damaged if I finished the last 2 years being constantly bullied
I studied beauty for 2 years instead and have a diploma thingy which I'm never gonna use
I realized that touching people isn't something I wanna do
I've come to realize that I also hate phones
I'm a very difficult person
I don't really get along with people
I don't have the patience to teach.
If someone can pay my medical aid and buy me stuff while I do that
-------------

Bottom line, you must go down as about the most spoiled and arrogant person I have seen for some time. Someone who feels the world needs to dance to your tune, and everyone must fall into how you perceive life, and what you like and don't like.

Girl, clearly you have not grown up yet, and don't live in the real world. I am quite sure you live with your parents or someone who is paying the bills, cook you meals every day, do your washing, and basically, do everything for you, so that you have time to think about all that you like and don't like.

Simply put, if I was and employer, you would be the employee from hell with all your dislikes. I would not want you to work for me, for free.

I think your best option is to get a sugar daddy, and I feel sorry for him :)

But, good luck for the future, hope you find that career that caters for all that you want.

I can't say you're wrong. I am a nasty bitch to deal with at times. But like you said, you don't know me at all, and I don't know you. So your opinion doesn't mean anything to me.

And thanks, if I manage to find that career, I'd be the happiest, most spoiled and arrogant person you'll see! :)

go do an on line programming course, I think you have the mind for it.

you can also try using M4jam on your off days to see if it is viable, maybe you can turn that into a decent career.

think some of the posters being a bit hard on you,

give it time, and explore as many different options as you can, never know when you find something you like,

as one person once said to me:
try everything at least once, everything except alcohol and drugs!

never know when you find something you like, it come just be patient!

My dad got me into robotics when I was in grade 3, I was doomed to follow the path of the nerd ever afterwards.

Onto you:
You have nearly 3500 posts on a website dedicated to the tech community, surely you would have some inclination on whether the industry is for you or not? Unless of course you got that number in TK :p

I have read a lot about how people change careers and "start over" and one thing i can tell u is,u are still very young and u are still learning and finding yourself. I always say people that know what they wanted to do from an early age and actually make a career out of it,especially the IT people since they have been into computers from a young age,are very lucky to have that. There is people in their 40's changing careers ,people doing their Degrees in their 50's. Life is a journey and a discovery of yourself,if u don't have all the answers now don't stress it will come to u,even if it takes a couple of years.

Read a lot about careers, and articles about it. I see people mention the IT field..Why don't u check out this free course https://www.codecademy.com/learn/web i would not start with a programming language as mentioned because i can see how it can putt someone off and never want to try it again,so try that course and then let us know what u think of it.

Female MMA is a growing sport - as far as I know one of the first local female fights was in the last EFC.

Anyhow you get to wear sexy clothes, smack the shict out of someone, and get paid and sponsorship etc....you are the perfect age to start training.
