How difficult is it to upgrade to PVR?

Hi guys.

I have an old decoder (dsd990) and I've bought a new SD PVR and was wondering how difficult it really is to install the new system and the costs.
I got a quote for R450 installation PLUS R500 for the twin LNB.

Am I being ripped off?
 
Sounds about right - they charged me R500 to realign my dish.
 
@Peder - how much do you know about this stuff? That link says HD Ready - if I get it will I be able to receive a HD signal (obviously with the required HD-Decoder) - or do I need a new dish, etc for HD signal?

BTW - I currently have a dual lnb - not sure if it has to be HD-Ready...

Its a sales gimmick as far as i can see. You have to buy a special "splitter" to split the two into 4 to make the HD PVR work. You don't need a new LNB as far as i can understand to use HD just a specially made splitter.

Hmm - and thats something I could do with ease... I wonder when the UEC HD PVR will be released.
 
So ? how didfficult is it?
Is it only that I have to change the LNB to a dual ( or quad for future HD PVR) and connect the new wire from the LNB to the second slot on the PVR.

Is that all on the installation side?

Then call MC and get the thing to be set up from their side.

What am I missing?
Bidorbuy has a dual LNB for R280, good price?
and whats good cable to use, was thinking might as well replace the old cable from the old LNB and use a better qaulity cable.

Advice please

It is reasonably easy. Change it to a Dual LNB you can always get a splitter later on which can make it HD TV capable.

You will also only have to run another wire on, i used normal aerial wire with F-connectors. You may just have to move the dish a bit but if you are careful all you will have to set is the LNB angle and not the dish angles( as long as you don't move the dish)

When you have set everything up you call MC and tell them your dish etc has been set up they are gonna moan and say no you must use a installer but just tell them its installed.

The LNB above that i posted was the best i could find.

I personally use normal Aerial cable, never used anything else, it was the cable that came with my single LNB so i used it again and just got some more aerial cable...
