How do I get better latency for MMO games?

you know you just compared your openweb vb account vs your webafrica openweb gold account :p

big differences is vb is seacom , webafrica is sat3, data centre for vb is jhb and webafrica is cpt.

Nope. This was on VB. Same happened with my IS account. WA is slightly better than all of them on Intl.

Good start :)
Adding your line means you can transfer it to you if you like, giving you a bundled deal with cheaper line rental. Otherwise you can still run the account off your Telkom line without having to transfer it to us.

The account will run at the speed you purchase, it's something that's limited on our end. Line speed may increase latency. For gaming, have a look at 1Mbps and up - also makes your downloads much better than 384kbps ;)
Should I PM you a Sales guys contact details and he can walk you through the package in a little more detail?

Yes you can, I've discussed it with my family members.

I completely disagree. Up to a certain point you're correct, and beyond that point you need to recheck some facts.

I jumped from a 384 to a 1Mb line and I'd be lying if I said that my latency remains the same.
Pta -> Jhb dropped from 32 to 18ms
Pta -> Ctn dropped from 65 to 39ms
Pta -> London dropped from 290ms to 185ms

It all comes down, actually, in the majority, to some factors, mainly your upload speed. Download speed has less of an impact on your latency, as long as you have sufficient bandwidth available to provide instant space for the packets.
I can download at 75KB/s and still have a 250ms ping to London, but as soon as I start using up valuable upload speed, my latency increases.
And yes, this has been tested countless times by not just me. Tested it with a 10mb line too, same results.

dude, while you might experience that... and Im not saying you lying, its simply not possible.

sync rate has nothing to do with latency. Im not gonna go into the whole explanation of why, but just bear in mind that ISP's dont route all their accounts the same. if you had a 384k vs a 1mb account , its quite normal for them to place you into different shaping groups, which often effects your latency.

perfect example would be openweb silver vs openweb gold vs openweb plat. You paying more for plat coz not only will your shaping be better (or none at all) but you will have less hops to get where you wanna go! Less hops = better latency (less devices to go through)

all same sync rate with different latencies, buts that comes in after the exchange. Its at ISP level, got bogger all to do with the ADSL circuit itself

google it and have a look around, and you will see what Im talking about

edit : thought the below might help

Latency: This is how long a packet takes to travel from the source to the destination. This is limited by the laws of physics. An electron can only travel at 1 speed on a copper wire. Increasing bandwidth has no affect on this. A photon on a fibre link can only travel at the speed of light. Even if we could increase this speed, Einstein tells us that this would negatively affect the latency! Finally, devices that process the data at various hops, e.g. routers, switches and firewalls, also add to latency. So, the further apart a client and server are, the longer a transmission takes. Adding in more network devices, e.g. transmissions between different ISP’s, worsens this.

what I was getting at in terms of different account types ie. gold vs plat

Hello. I would recommend highpingbuster(dot)com because they route your connection to optimise latency. Dropped me from 800 ms to 250 ms in aion. Strangely though star wars the old republic has good latency whether or not i use hpb services. Note its $6 a month for their service. Worth it though. And they have trials so you can try before you pay. Good luck with your online gaming experience
