Before i went away on holiday, a Telkom rep visited my house under the pretext of getting my permission to upgrade me to the newly installed (and "improved technology") Telkom exchange in my area.
Little did I know that they wanted me to upgrade my package, and then only would they put me on the new exchange.
I chose not to upgrade, so they chose to leave me on the old exchange

But now that i know it exists, I want to be on it.
I have a 4Mbps line but I don't get more than 2.5Mbps

So... lemme ask the real experts in the field:
How do i get myself onto the new exchange?

honestly? you are wasting your time. its not gonna happen buddy.

and getting a response from telkom is kind of like getting a letter from santa. no one really gets one, and when they do its a fake to make you feel better.

look into wireless ISP's in your area. sure you will pay a little more, but at least going through this is easier.

Phone Telkom 10210. Tell them you want to upgrade to 40mbps VDSL. This will ensure that you are connected to the newest equipment, as long as you are within reasonable distance of the new exchange or an MSAN. If you apply for 20mbps, you might remain on the same exchange and DSLAM but with a different profile, or it might be a slightly newer DSLAM in the same exchange. So that's why I recommend applying for 40mbps. It ensures that they connect you to the newest equipment.

Once you are connected, use it for a month, pay the higher price, then downgrade to something more suitable to your budget. They will usually leave you connected to the same equipment, but drop you to a lower speed profile/product. Make sure you don't sign any contracts and you are on a month to month package, and be careful if they throw in free hardware. It usually comes with strings attached, so make sure. You might also need to fork out for a VDSL modem, but I believe you should be able to connect at 20-24mbps on an ADSL2+ profile using your current modem, as the MSANs are backwards compatible.

Not the easiest method, and no guarantee that the above will work, but its worth a shot if you are desperate.

With regards to applying for the VDSL, wont Telkom want more people in the area to apply fo rthis service before they roll out installations. line number 021 696.... Please advise cause Telkom opted to put me on the furthest exchange from my home where I have one less that 1km from me, that some Telkom agent decided to take me off when cancelling my data service but included the ADSL line as well...

Please advise how I can get back on this exchange as then I will atleast get my full 10mbps instead of the 5mbps that im on now.
