I have a prepaid SIM I use in my 3G modem. I have airtime. But how am I supposed to load a data bundle? Detailed instructions please! (They don't exist on the MTN site.)

I've tried dialling 808 but they only do contract stuff.

I've tried 173 - option 5 "pay as you go data support" but I have been cut off more than 15 times in the past hour, and on hold for far too long.

Isn't there an online way to do this? I don't want to keep paying R2/MB and I can't get service from 173.

I want to load a 100MB bundle which as I understand it is R80. It's been more than a month since I got my first bundle loaded (by Autopage).

Load the airtime on your phone and dial *141#

dial 141, follow voice prompts...
you pay for the data bundles with your current airtime, i think
if you don't have enuf airtime, topup first...

I don't have a pre-paid number :(

I would like someone to try and use *141#. AFAIK it gives you a choice off selections of which u then select you choice. Word of mouth of course.

Would be nice to have this myth busted in my head. :p

Just tried dialling *141# and as MTNDD it just gives you the airtime and data bundle balances, no options.

Use *141*pinnumber#

It works.

Instructions are printed on the voucher (if you get a physical one and not a virtual one.

Thanks all ... well all except Pitbull!:p ;)

141, option 3 for bundles, option 3 for data bundles, option 1 for once-off data bundle, option 2 for 100MB bundle (the others are there too, I didn't listen beyond 500MB), 1 to confirm.

I am now surfing at 80c/MB: happy.

@Pitbull: I also think there ought to be a USSD (text menu) way of achieving this. Probably not a single *141*amount# command, because the options available could change, but a command-menu-option thing like *123#

With the voice menu system I need to swap the SIM from the Huawei modem into my handset. Not too bad for once a month, but could still be better.

... thinks ... I didn't try *123# with the data SIM. It says nothing about bundles on my contract SIM but maybe the menu is different for different cases? Will try when I'm not online.

Does this work for data bundles? I thought vouchers were only for general airtime. I got my airtime via an ATM, but I'll happily buy a physical voucher if this technique is going to load me a data bundle.

Nope

Thanks for clarifying that, MTNDD. I thought not.

Now ...

Of course there's always another question ...

Any chance of this (prepaid data bundle vouchers) in the future?

Not a bad idea will put it forward
