How do I request data settings ?

It does not know my device model do I SMS 185 and it tells me command unknown so I send another 3G device model and it tells me I will receive the settings and nothing happens. Is there another way to do it ?

Sorry for such a late reply, its sorted as I gave the phone away to a friend that uses Vodacom.

Actually it gave him no issues with Vodacom, he didn't even have to request settings.
