Hi, sorry for the noob question.
I access the internet through the wi-fi from my university. The actual wi-fi network is open but afterwards I have to connect through the university proxy, which requires me to enter my username and password.

This is easily done with an internet browser as a window pops up to enter my username and password as soon as I open the browser. But how do I get other applications (such as MSE to update my virus definitions) to access the internet through the proxy? I know there's a place in Internet Options to enter the proxy url and port but there's no place to enter my username and password.

Thanks in advance

The proxy will ask for your username/password when it requires it.

This can be quite often, so the best plan is normally to have your browser cache the password - which, of course, is a security breach ... :)

Ah I see so I'll just enter my proxy hostname and port and give it a go. Thanks for the help!
