I went to https://www.nvidia.com/en-za/geforce-now/ and clicked "Join Today" which scrolled me down to a message saying
"GeForce NOW is operated by a GeForce NOW Alliance Partner in your region 'rain'"

I then clicked "Learn more" which took me to Rain's website which offers to a bunch of their services which is a dead end. I don't want to sign up for Rain.

According to this article (https://mybroadband.co.za/news/gaming/524356-geforce-now-a-huge-success-in-south-africa.html), "The service is available to anyone — you need not use a Rain broadband service to access GeForce Now."

@rain_mobile I've been going back to the Rain website from time to time, and it always still says that GeForce Now is sold out. I have put my email on the list a number of times but never heard back.
When will there be capacity again?

Speaking under correction but I don't believe RAIN has MFA which is kind of a big no no these days. Especially since there's a bunch of PII if one logs into the account like ID, phone number, address etc.

Now what if someone gets access to your Steam Account through RAIN and GFN? They've basically reduced all your connected gaming accounts down to single-factor login. Fortunately Steam has Steam Guard, but all your PII is on RAIN to log a ticket to Steam saying "I've lost my email/phone"?

I reckon for everyone using GFN via RAIN, be sure to disconnect your Steam/Epic etc. connections every time you finish playing.

Am I missing something? Isn't this like a massive security issue?

I signed up directly for GeForce NOW from Nvidia using a VPN.
It works, though it is sometimes a bit laggy, but you can change location to anywhere GFN has a direct presence (see here: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/ans...t-are-the-supported-locations-for-geforce-now). Also playing at certain times makes it better or worse.
I don't play shooter games, more strategy and builder, so the occasional lag does not bother me too much.
GFN has a free tier (you can play for an hour at a time) so you can try with a VPN before you commit. My son tried Fortnite a little on the free tier and said it was OK.
Once you have an account, you can even play with the GFN client without being connected to the VPN; it just chooses the best location based on ping, I think.
But I think rain is a no-show in this game. (If you look at the link above, you will see rain is what's called a "GFN Alliance Partner" - GFN does not have a direct presence here in SA).
I hope rain jumps up and down about this a bit, because they've really dropped the ball with GFN; it would be nice if Nvidia could award that partnership to someone else.

(FYI - the reason I don't go via rain is because they haven't had free seats for about a year since they launched GFN, and I've tried asking and signing up dozens of times).

At $9.99/month, entry level, it's only ZAR25.00 more expansive than RAIN, but if the ZAR/USD tanks, you're also exposed, but a real workable alternative.

Ah well, it's month-to-month, I can cancel at any time.

@rain_mobile This was honestly a waste of hope. Used to be able to connect to a VPN and play to my heart's content. But now I cant even get to the GFN website without being blocked by a redirect to the Rain Page, also can't play anymore as the player capacity has been full for years now. doesn't even matter how many times I join the waiting list, I never get any feedback from rain. I have even opened a ticket with Rain, was called by support and they did not even know what GeForce now was and couldn't give me any answer after transferring me to 7 different people in who knows how many departments. This service was great when I played on a VPN even though sometimes there was lag. I can honestly say, I would rather lag than not be able to play at all anymore. Well done Rain on not even addressing the community regarding the progress and state of your GeForce Now platform.

Hi KeenanVH
Please provide us with your email via PM | https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/conversations/add?to=rain_mobile

Thanks, rain

If you are willing to play GeForce Now via a VPN and the ping is ok for you, then why not try using the xbox cloud gaming feature. Yes it is not available in SA, but I use this https://better-xcloud.github.io/clients/ for my phone, works in your browser for pc as well and I can play the xbox gampass games that is available on their cloud gaming platform. I just set the region to Poland and it works. Not going to recommend playing anything like COD, but it works for single player games, where ping is not an issue. You just need the XBox ultimate subscription.

Which VPN provider do you use and what kind of ping do you have whilst using it?

You do not need a VPN at all, you can set your location inside the app, so I connect to Poland, as that is the closet option available. Have not checked the ping, but the indicator shows high ping, but if you are not playing any competitive type of multiplayer games, the ping is not too much of an issue.
