Whenever my 3G connection switches to HSDPA/HSUPA, I am unable to reach the servers, throughput drops about 70% and troubles abound. I have tried setting '3G only' but with no effect.

Can anyone help me?

I dont think you can. If you have a HSDPA capable device, then the network will switch you over when activity on the modem requires it.

Which modem?

Set it to 2G Only, then you'll be rid of HSDPA/HSUPA, but at the cost of very slow speeds with 2G.
