Why would one even need a coming out event? I don't know of any heterosexuals who've had "still straight" parties. Oh wait, hang on. That's not true - we just don't call them that...

The majority of us are actually quite normal...some of the members...not so much.

Well yes - some people are in very conservative homes, and some people need to hide it when they are living with their parents.

Well... the fact of the matter is his parents might be Christians, who are repeatedly told in church how "bad" this is, how it's sin and whatnot (again. with gays and atheists)
Then there is also the kids in school.... sure, we would love it if everyone accepted everybody....the truth is this doesn't happen (once again with both with gays, and atheists)

Why do you think most people's advice was to keep it secret and wait till University?

I aint against NSA....think it is great. But I do have my own personal set of values when it comes to having a partner...but my values most certainly aint everyones and I do not expect them to have the same. Im just kinda fasioned that way.

I think you're saying that gay pride parades served a purpose and I agree. And I'm not going to tell anyone they can't have there gay pride parade if they want to but these days when I see them I just think "really guys? Is that what a gay man looks like?".

Anyway, it's not really my business. I only dabble myself.

And as per your dabbling...surely you can see that as a stereotype in itself?
 
I'm starting to think that "coming out" is a gay rite of passage. The Bar Mitzvah of homosexuality :D

All that's needed now is an MTV reality show- "My Super Fabulous Coming Out".
 
I don't suggest any young person to come out if there is even the merest suggestion of his/her parents might be religious and he is reliant on them financially.

I hate witnessing the stereotype. I wish they'd rather just host a few baking shows, braid each other's hair and scrutinise celebrity outfits...
