How do the Proxy services from NukeCap and OpenWeb work?

Is it just simply a case of changing your login to the one provided from the respective providers, or is there more to it than that?

You login as per usual to your ISP - nothing changes there.
Then you configure your internet browser(s) and download managers to use their proxy server.
i.e. IE = Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab -> Lan Settings Option Button -> Fill in the Proxy Server Settings.
i.e. FireFox = Tools -> Options -> Connection Settings -> Fill in the Proxy Server Settings.

The "Fill in the Proxy Server Settings" will have a login and password associated that are seperate from your ISP login and password.

They also provide VPN services.

VPN services are like another Dial-Up connection within your ISP connection.
You connect to your ISP in the normal way, then initiate a VPN connection through the existing connection [It is configured the same way that a Dial-Up connection is configured].
Once connected using the VPN connection, the ISP connection becomes inivisible and all your traffic runs through the VPN connection. The VPN connection has a VPN server and login and password that is seperate from your IPS's login and password.

So therefore, if I'm sharing one connection to 2 pc's at my house, I can use the proxy service on 1 PC only, as that one will be configured with the proxy settings.

Nukecap is a bit Diff. Once you sign up your emailed with mini client that will connect you to VPN. (easier then whole Lan VPN connect way) It is really simple....Install....Login....Enter username/password and connected. No need to edit net or other settings...That is really it.

Yes only one session at a time....So i would imagine you need 2 diff accounts for 2 comps?

You can configure as many as you like [98% sure].

I seriously doubt that they bother to check the sending authenticating IP address because of DHCP [Dynamic IP Addresses] issues on your local network.

But - I am only 98% sure of this. Looks like you're going to have to PM clipse.

[edit : Thanks Borgir. (That's the VPN offering anyways - suppose the Proxy offering has the same single-session rules)]

But then I would just setup my Proxy server to get from their proxy server [Proxy chaining] and setup my other PC's to get from my local proxy server.

I think their response time sucks. I have e-mailed MrBeeps and posted on the forum and no reply. Eventually I cancelled my user and re-registered to get the info I was looking for.

Obviously something went wrong somewhere. i have never had a problem with their response.

and now just because one person did, you make out as if the entire organization sucks.

Not really...one wont give any company a bad name. Nukecap has always helped and replied fast. I not even had to try call Clipse. All problems and Uunet stats posted if any downtime.

Not saying Openweb is bad at all...But i would rather pay 60 bucks to Nukecap knowing the Rep for good service and quality.

I did try see if Open Proxy is any good but not even got details yet :(

ermm....Im referring to openweb, not nuke.

Hey Borgir,

I am so sorry that you have not received your details yet, but as you can imagine, with our Socks proxy being a free service we have received huge amounts of applications, so we are providing accounts as slots become available. I have posted this on our board.

But, in a PM, I have sent you your details.

I apologise for the delay, and hope you will have yourself a GREAT day!

Kind regards
MrBEEP

The times I've dealt with OpenWeb and NukeCAP, they've both been efficient and helpful. One fairly slow reply, doesn't make a "bad" company.
