how do you deter car thieves ?

guys ....

do you use gear locks ? steering locks ? central locking ?

Is there no real alternative than unplugging the engine fuse? It seems by reading the thread regarding two thieves ... all security is just as good as no security ?

can we not have pepper sprayed into a person's face via the hooter and glove compartment when trying to turn the steering wheel without a key or with foreign objects?

what other ways could we use besides disconnecting the front brakes or taking out the engine fuse / whole fuse box or rigging it with c4 explosives?:D:wtf:

why cant we ask the tracker people to install the device on a place that WE prefer as thieves know all about the usual locations already? (i would want mine to be under the back seats or underneath the spare wheel)

In all honesty, don't be too ridiculous with car security. The main problem in South Africa is that if your car is in demand in terms of theft, and your car is too difficult to steal then you will end up getting hijacked. It is simpler to get the car from you once you have deactivated all the anti-theft controls by waving a gun in your face.

Have enough security (e.g. immobilizer) that there is a deterrent effect (another car may be easier to steal than yours). And install a tracker to aid with recovery. But in the end, rather have the car stolen without you present than the contact crime (and associated trauma) of being hijacked.

Hook a separate car coil to the car's seat. simply strip a "boggy cord"'s (i.e. the copper needs to stick out a bit) other end and place it underneath the seat cover.

This works very effective for theft, but is a bit more tricky against hijackings. For hijackings you'll need to have a time-delay which gets triggered when your door opens (with simple push button switch that works the same way as the light switch) and can activate about 2 minutes after the door has been closed.

Hook-up the whole setup to a remote switch for easy activation / de-activation or if you really want to.

Macgyver, is that you?

haha, funny........ I guess this was a bit above the OP's level of application, but it works very well. The fuel cut-out switch also works well but there's only so many places you could hide it which hasn't been used by security companies before.

Another option is to have a "code lock" type setup, where you have 2 or 3 switches in different places which needs to be de-activated in sequence, and within a certain time-frame before it engages the fuel pump again.

Place some chocolates strategically (those with the soft, liquidy innerds) and inject it full of either laxatives or if you're not too worry about getting your car back uncrashed ... cyanide.

Variation of the Picard method above.

Implement all of the above mentioned great ideas but never neglect to leave the new owners of your car a drink.
They worked hard and as they drive off they will probably be thirsty.
I suggest half a jack brandy in the 'glove department'.
As there is no time under the circumstances to have glasses and coke ready, you will have have to add the mix beforehand.
Use a syringe with a thin needle to add the mix and your ingenuity to seal the little hole afterwards.

You will be saving the police, courts and all of us a lot of money and time.

That's called murder, and if they find out that you did it you will go to jail

softdux you will have a pm shortly, wiring etc aint a problem for me , nor is it a problem to concoct a lethal potions. So if i create a lethal potion, and these two blokes decide to have a sip and they have such a bad reaction like vigorous stomach reactions etc and it causes them to stop and eventually get caught... what case will that be then ?

in my defense i can just ask the thief, so what were you doing in my car anyway ? :D

Not if you put a warning on the bottle, small print "CAUTION : POISON" the new box on the label for ALCHOHOL WARNINGS is perfect for this :)

You'll never get away with that.
Unlike the car thief, Your prosecutor and judge won't be morons.

How is it murder if someone steals your securely locked away poison and consumes it?
