How do you get good at games?

There are always ways to be good at games without actually being good at them, if that makes sense:p
For example... I play BF2 and if i go head to head with one of the 'asualt' guys i have no chance. But if I am sniper i can kill him from 200ft away no problem so I win he losses:D
you see?

In strategy games(generals) let them attack you 1st then counterattack.Ez

What JustInct is saying is actually very true and applies to most FPS games, although probably more so to CS. I used to play CS often (worked for a company where we got <10ms pings :D) and would regularly kill 4+ oponents per round. Once I even managed to kill the entire team in one round after they wiped out my team in a failed "storm tactic".

Needless to say alot of players cried foul play and accused me of cheating when all I did was to learn the map, aim in the right spots, get my timing right, anticipate my opponent's moves, use weapons appropriately and learn when to storm and when to wait for the opponent to attack me. Practise makes perfect in this regard.

Finally, don't play when you're tired or feel stressed as you'll only become agitated which leads to even worse suckage :p

Nawadays I don't play very often, but I still kick but as I know how to play the game. Last LAN session I played 3 vs 1 and I owned them 120-10 ;) I got so bored I started using only the 5/7 pistol, which made it a bit more interresting (That gun rocks BTW)

PS: JustInct, we should play some time, I always enjoyed a worthy adversary.

Ye would be cool, i havnt been to a lan in ages, and thats where its best to play cs. Unfortunately im stuck on dsl to play cs which comes with its own set of problems. So get urself some dsl and join me on the sgs servers sometime. Also if u get mIRC u can chat 2alot of gamers and stuff on their, you can also pop into the myadsl chatroom.

I play css now though, so how good i will be at 1.6 is also another thing :p

i'm pretty sure there is a natural talent that just can't be learnt!

but on the other side of things... once the playing field is fair(ping, system setup etc etc) there is the "knowing the field"

for example... i rule at unreal tournament... the reason i beleive so is i can predict 90% of the situations... i know that when i have weapon X and i can take on anyone in fashion Y and probably come out tops... i know that when dude is chasing me with weapon Z... my best chance is too chooze weapon A and run straight into his face.... its all about the odd's and knowing whats gonna bring you ontop!

Also depends on how much you mean by good :D

If you're talking about the pro gamers who get paid like 50k per tournament then... you have to live on your PC.

There really is only one way to get good at gaming. You really do have to practice.

Practice is always good! but there are some shortcuts I found to make things easier..for example In UT2004 or 2003, if you play on 200% gaming speed for a while and then change it back to 100%,everything looks like its in slow motion and Godlike bots seem like Novice bots, I guess I've got to stop being such a lazy ****e then and just practice instead of looking for shortcuts :D
