3. Buttered warm so that the butter melts and will heat up and absorb honey or syrup.
4. NEVER with anything except genuine cow grease.

Well yes, you can make what is/was known as "melba toast". very thinly sliced bread dried like a rusk.
The traditional way is in an oven on a very low heat setting the same as when used to make rusks. The Air fryer does an excellent job of drying out rusks and bread. the problem is the limited quantities.
