How do you share a scanner on a network?

Whats the printer/scanner/copier IP Address? Do you assign one for that printer? I don't know canon very well.

Surely with the IP Address you could get any TWAIN scanning software to link to it?

I could get an HP to scan via it's own software and via some old scansoft utility that was on an old win2000 PC. I just needed the IP.

It is not directly on the network ie it is connected to a pc on the network. With blind scanner I did use that pc's ip and found the scanner. After scanning 1 of 2 pages via the ADF it kicked up an error and did not work thereafter even after numerous attempts.

When I uninstalled it from the pc with the scanner it messed up the original driver so that I couldn't open 'My Computer' or the control panel without unplugging the printer/fax USB cable.

Format/Re-install!!

Uninstall - re-install of the original driver and software solved the problem .
