How does one determine best network quality in your area?

I've had enough of CellC. Poor service in my house and in my local shopping mall (CapeGate). On a trip to Kimberley on the N1, there was no service between towns; MTN and Vodacom coverage was constant (for the times I checked). I am now looking to switch to another service provider. But is there a tool that will enable me to evaluate localised signal/service quality of various CSPs?
 
I've just switched back to MTN from Cell C. I've never been so frustrated with a network like Cell C. The signal would be up and down, then at about 7pm onwards it would be a struggle to just open a simple web page. Still MTN and Vodacom would be the better choice in most cases, rather the devil you know.
 
No tool I'm afraid. The best thing to do is to ask your neighbors of people living in your street which ISP/ CSP they use and what they think of the signal quality and data speeds.
 
The best thing to do is to pop down to your local cellular store and buy a prepaid simcard for each network that you want to test. They are like R 1-00 each anyway, then you can stick in the sims and run a few speedtest at various times to test the speed and network congestion.

I have realised that I can get about 3x the spped at home through Vodacom and will be porting all my numbers to the red team as they come up for renewal.

How do you do a speedtest?
