How does Takealot classify essential products?

Does anyone have any idea how Takealot went about determining what is essential and what isn’t?

I know printer toner is probably quite low on most people list of essentials, but I am battling to understand how toner for one printer can be classified as essential but for another isn’t.

Samsung toner classified essential:https://www.takealot.com/samsung-ml...igh-yield-black-compatible-toner/PLID44736950

Xerox one is not: https://www.takealot.com/generic-xe...0-3040-3045-high-capacity-black-/PLID44736957

At first I politely asked their customer service department whether they could make the Xerox one available for purchase, given that there are at least a thousand other toners and ink cartridges currently listed as available during the lockdown. However they keep on giving me the boiler plate response that the product I’m looking for is not essential based on government regulations and guidelines.

It seems no one I’ve been able to get through to has the common sense to realise these are the same types of product. I can fully understand that some items might have been overlooked at first, but surely there has to be a way to review other products?

Feels like I’m talking to a brick wall whenever dealing with their support department.

I suspect they sell what they have in their warehouses.

Some brands, makes, models, variations etc may be provided by third parties when ordered. These may now not be available while they may have some other stock on hand.

In this case both products are listed as in stock in CPT and JHB.

If they just come back and say, sorry, we decided to only sell x, y and z, then fine. But they keep on insisting that the one product isn’t essential because of the regulations.

Yeah you can buy a washing line, but not a washing machine??

I generally think they are 'essentially' suppling in terms with their suppliers and third-party resellers. There is something odd up with the supply chains, some have privileged exclusivity... well, it is how I am experiencing it at the moment.

You can buy a POS Energizer headlamp but not a decent headlamp.

And need the lamp for health reasons as I need a bright light to see where I need to clean a surgical site. And using a torch is not an option. I need something that I can move where I need to see. And needs to be used with a mirror.

And if I can’t clean the site, I can die as it is an open wound and infection can happen again
