How does Telkom FTTH work?

So I emailed Afrihost support and they claim that Afrihost Capped accounts won't work on Fibre (via OpenServe).. interesting, well I can happily cancel my accounts and they will lose due to an idiot support person if they wish

Afrihost capped accounts do work with openserve. There support person didn't have there brains switched on.....

My free 1GB Afrihost account works on fibre, but I had to contact Afrihost to get them to enable such compatibility. Not sure if they would do that for a paid account.

I can confirm that a Capped ADSL account from Afrihost does indeed work on an Openserve fibre connection. I mailed them today and asked them to enable fibre access on my Capped ADSL data package and a very courteous response later I was told that all capped accounts should work on the Openserve (PPPoE) network.

Just had a line installed via Axxess 100/50 Openserve. Was running ADSL Afrihost capped package. Just switched the router over to the AH package to use up the data, Bob's your uncle. No changes had to be made anywhere.

I have an existing TP Link TD W8970 wireless router which supports EWAN on one of its ports. I am hoping this will work on the Openserve FTTH network. I asked on of the Telkom techs and he says "Telkom are very specific as the network is GPON and not active Ethernet which most routers are configured for " Can some perhaps explain what he means

My TP Link W8968 works fine on fiber.

Some pictures please.

so Openserve did the Fibre, who's your SP?

For anyone that was cabled via OpenServe, with a 3rd party Service Provider.

Other than the Huawei ONT, does OpenServe leave a Modem behind? if yes, make/model?

Answering my own question. the OTN supplied by OpenServe as part of the CW package has a RG45 out, that goes directly into my EWAN port of my router.

RJ45

Not all routers have EWAN ports so best people check beforehand.
