It sends the signal to the decoder along the cable, but if you have the signal split in 3 and have it over a fair distance you will probably need to get a powered 3 way splitter for the signal to reach the decoder
They are about R70 from Multichoice branches

check your splieters if it allows 2 way trafic (on the spliter look for a picture of 2 arrows in oposite directions or something similar) it might work but considering the distance it might not be powerful enogh

i dont understant 1 thing if you have the decoder in your flat then why do you need to change the main 1 you can watch and change on that one ?

Thanks for the replies! Will have a look at the splitter but it is quite old... know its not powered though, don't know about the signal both ways but before I did change the decoders around, I noticed that RF Out/In (Sorry can't remember which one it was) that came from the primary decoder was plugged into this splitter and then taken to the secondary decoder, only because the cable was too short I suppose. After running it directly it seems that I'm getting much better signal quality. I'm guessing that is why people just prefer to do it themselves :D

Just to explain again after all changes. The secondary decoder is in the flat and the primary is in the lounge in the house. The secondary is the one I'm watching in my bedroom (in the house) and the primary is the one my parents are watching. Need to change the channels of the secondary which is about 30-40m from my room.

My parents are currently using the remote blaster from Ellies, which is working great. Would it just be better to get the add on transmitter for my room and just train it to transmit to their receiver? Because I have noticed that the channels of the secondary decoder can be changed if you use the remote on the main decoder, as long as it is set to TV2 on the remote.

if you using A remote blaster already just by the add onn, less hassle to set up.

what was the reason for having the decoders in seprate room you dont want you folks to kbow you wathcing actionx on friday nights?

LOL... I've got the internet for that ;) (Hope my GF never reads this)

My brother used the DSTV in the flat, just decided we would leave it there in case someone moves there one day.

At least I can get to watch South Park now! Thanks for the help

I was aware of that specific decoder model having the ability to work with the remote link but the functionality was disabled.
Im assuming a firmware update on the decoder sorted this?
